PBS American Experience - Walt Disney

I had heard that this was coming up this month, but hadn't realized it would be 4 hours over 2 nights. Just set my PVR.

So, I have recently dropped cable. Although this on a broadcast channel, an antenna is very unreliable. Does anyone know if you will be able to stream this show on the internet?

Most programming on PBS can be viewed on their website. Sometimes it may be a day or two after the program initially airs before it becomes available for streaming.

The first part just finished and I thought it was great definitely watch it online or later if you didn't get the chance. The HD clips of films like Snow White, Fantasia, and Pinocchio were enough on its own to make it great. Can't wait to watch tomorrow.

Definitely riveting. Won't miss the second part tomorrow night.

It sounded to me like in the early days, Walt Disney's employees didn't like him much! Did anyone else get that impression?

I think their biggest problem was not getting credit when credit was due.

Liked it, but pretty much straightforward. I was hoping to find more insight and information that I haven't already learned from the various books and information that's already out there.

Walt Disney was a difficult person to work for as he was a perfectionist. He also provided minimal positive feedback to his employees. I loved the old Disney Channel where there were interviews with Walt's "nine old men". These are some of the greats in animation - Les Clark, Frank Thomas, Ward Kimball, Marc Davis. They would talk about the "sweat box" on Friday's when Walt would review all of the animation that had been completed for the week. Everyone was "sweating" because if Walt did not approve the animation you completed for the week, it would have to be redone. There's the famous story regarding Pinocchio when Walt decided to add red coloring to Jiminy Cricket's face after 25% of the film had been completed. All of the scenes which included Jiminy had to be redone. He drove his brother crazy with last minute changes to the animated films and Disneyland attractions. He decided to change the Pirates of the Caribbean from a walk through to a boat ride after the construction of the attraction had started. He had all of the "steel" torn down and the attraction was rebuilt.

Well done PBS! If you didn't watch it I truly recommend it to even the small Disney fan. Part 2 was by far my favorite from Mary Poppins to Disneyland to Walts Death. I was moved really and the impact he has had on the world is just incredible. Yes he had flaws and they covered that but the legacy he left is the reason the disboards exist.

he had a lot on his shoulders, we all behave differently when the pressure is on, and it was his great name that was at stake. i'm sure his employees knew this, and their rewards were all the successes that followed their hard work.

He was indeed hard to work for but he had a soft side. One story I like was about a new young animator who joined the studio. Their was a meeting and Walt pulled out a cigirrattee and the young man pulled out his lighter to light Wars smoke and ended up burning 1/2 of Walt mustache off.

Walt had to shave the rest of his mustache off and he noticed everyone was scunning the young man figuring he was going to be fired.

So Walt invited the young man to lunch at the studio to show everyone he was not mad and that it was just a accident.

Too short. But I liked it.

The part that got me was when they described Walt planning WDW on his hospital celing tiles. I have heard this story before but it gets me every time.
