Hi there! This is going to seem like a bit of a silly question...
We are staying at PBH, deluxe room, in April. My husband really wants some sort of a balcony b/c he hates to feel trapped in a room. I know when that there are very few "real" balconies, so when I made my request I asked for a balcony or a ground level room w/patio (I can't find it, but I swear I read reports of people having this type of room!)...

I told DH and he's upset thinking that being on the ground level makes would make us more susceptible to people breaking in to our room.

Any thoughts/experiences with this?

I'm sure if you lock the door you will be fine. That level is smoking and pets level as well, I think, so be prepared.

I have found that security at all 3 onsite resorts is excellent.
I remember once at RPR, there was an incident, and the amount of people that where on the scene within minutes was amazing, a lot in plain clothes i.e shorts & tops, asked a guy i knew who all the people where, and he said they where all security.
So even though you maybe do not see to many, there is lots about.

This isn't your local Holiday Inn,this is Universal resort hotels. We have stayed many times and never worried about someone breaking into our room.In fact, like Robert stated, security are all around and have seen sherrif dept on bikes riding around.
One time we were staying at RPR and I went outside to smoke A cigarette at 4am.Security was asking to see my room key card to make sure I was staying there.Don't worry you will be safe!!

We stayed at Portofino last New Years (and going back again this New Years!) and had a terrace room with a bay view. Yes, these are pet rooms, however, never once did we feel our room was not secure. It was so nice to walk out of our terrace side, sit out on the chairs outside our door after the parks closed, and just relax and talk to the people walking by. We met so many people that way. There are a few rooms on that level that actually have a wrought iron fencing surrounding the terrace so it is not a true "walk-out" that would offer all the more security on the ground level. I think those were suite rooms though (definitely one of the rooms we saw like that was the Dr. Seuss kids' suite.)

I will say that on that level, you will hear the occasional dog barking...

I wouldn't worry, but at check-in ask to change rooms if you are on the 1st floor.I'm sure they will help if at all possible:thumbsup2:cool1::cool1::cool1:

As others have said this in not the Ramada West Gate, it is a hotel on Universal Property with good security. Too much risk for most criminals IMO.

That being said regardless of what floor you are on lock the door and take the normal precautions.
I recall rooms in the CR towers (and other Disney Deluxes) begin robbed by a traveler family several years back.
I even recall them going into rooms when people were asleep and emptying their wallets.
In the morning they would also claim to have been robbed and usually got something out of Disney.
If I recall all of this correctly the travelers had one of the travelers kids climbing to the next balcony (or several) and going into rooms and taking the valuables. This was quite a few floors up.

So no matter how good the hotel is be alert and use common sense.
