Did anyone else get an email about this. It is for people who signed up for paypal between 1999-2004. It's something about paypal not doing something right. It was a long confusing email so I don't remember exactly what the problem was but it had something to do with statements. Anyway I was wondering what other people thought. I don't think paypal owes me anything and if they've been doing something wrong I don't think it's affected me. Has anyone else filled out the form to join the suit. Also if anyone wants more detailed info I'll read the email again and answer questions.

I got it the other day but I've gotten so many spoof emails from paypal & ebay I questioned whether it was authentic. I saved it & meant to contact Paypal about it but haven't had a chance. I guess I'll have to go back & re-read it....

I got the email too and according to Paypal if it was phony mail it wouldn't have your first and last name in it. My DH's name is in it. I also did web searches about the case and it seems to be true. It doesn't ask for financial info either. The link goes from the Paypal site.

Did anyone call Paypal to ask? I'm going to give them a buzz next week because they definitely messed up our seller account big time.

I got it too and was wondering if it was real. I guess I'll check it out.

wow
i got this too but i deleted it thinking it was spoof mail and did not want to even deal with it!Guess i will go check out paypal and see whats up.thanks for the heads up guys!!

I got the email too. I forwarded it to Spoof@ebay.com and they responded that it was indeed legitimate. Now if I could only understand what all the mumbo jumbo was about! I just deleted anyways.

Same here. Ours was sent to our junk mail folder but I found it before it got deleted. I too sent it to the spoof address and got a response that it was legit. I didn't notice anything about having to do anything to be included in the settlement though. We recently got a similar letter from a former insurance company that covered our home. We thought nothing of it until we received a settlement check of eight thousand dollars. What a surprise. It was money that we had been overcharged. Not the same thing as this paypal suit I'm sure.

I forwarded it to spoof@paypal.com and I got a generic email saying they got it and would look into it but never heard back and this was a couple of days ago.

I received this email also and deleted it immediately. It is unfortunate that there is so much "fake" email which appears to come from paypal that you can't tell when a "real" one comes along (sigh). Off to my recycle bin ;)

I know I purchase something last year from someone who turned out to be a scam artist.... but since it was a Dutch auction, Ebay wouldn't pay. (There has to be one High Bidder...) So I tried to recoup my money through PayPal and they initially stopped payment... Then the fraudulent seller sent me an invoice sheet in a FedEx overnight envelope. He used the tracking number from the envelope to "prove" to PayPal that the package had been sent. Of course, PayPal did not look to see that the tracking number was for an envelope and not a package weighing about 10 lbs! So they PAID him... and refused to reimburse me!

So, I'll put my name in the hat and see if I can recoup any of that money... it's a shame when you think you are protected, and then find out how easy it is to get around that "protection"....

My DH sells electronics through Ebay and this guy won the auction....he paid for the item ($1500) through Paypal right away (he was not verified although he said he was win he won the auction). I was supposed the send the package out one night and I told the guy through email I was going to do it, but my DD had gotten sick so there was no way. I didn't tell him that though. The next day, I checked our Paypal account before I went to send the package (thankfully) and Paypal had pulled the funds out of our account because they said the buyer used a stolen credit card. This all happened within one week. My DH had already taken the money out and rolled it back into his business so it left a big negative balance into our account. They asked for our personal info so that they can reopen our account and we gave it to them but our account is still locked (this happened about 8 months ago) and my DH refuses to pay Paypal anything. We don't do business with Paypal unless we're the buyers now. We only accept money orders and Western Union when we sell. I am done with Paypal. They also allowed people to do charge backs without even doing investigations...so basically they allow buyers to take back their money and keep our items or they allow people to take our money and not send us items. I have a claim with my bank for that now for it. Not fair.

How do I know if I should fill out a form for part of the settlement? I read the website and it says if you opened a new paypal account between Oct 1999 and January 2004 you are included. Is that just it though? Did something else have to happen for me to have something I need to claim??? I am not aware of any money missing or anything, so I don't know what to do. I only had one non-payer thru ebay, but i don't even remember what happened with it. All this talk makes me think i should pull the plug on ebay and paypal??? Can someone please explain this better to me? I'm really confused.:confused:

I only read the part for the short form, but here are the qualifications:

You can make a Short Form Claim if, prior to February 1, 2004, PayPal caused you to lose money because of any of the following:

You experienced an unauthorized or incorrect electronic transfer to or from your PayPal account;

Your PayPal account was improperly restricted or access was improperly limited;

You requested information from PayPal about an account restriction or limitation or unauthorized transfer and you did not receive a satisfactory response; and/or

You experienced or reported an unsatisfactory result from a dispute with PayPal involving a chargeback, a refund, a buyer complaint, or PayPal’s Seller Protection Policy, Buyer Complaint Process and/or Buyer Protection Policy.

I guess that leaves me out. I have never had any problems.

Thanks much, Strasfamily!

I don't *think* I've had any of these problems either. But honestly, I'm not sure. If I even had any problems it was probably only for a buck or two. I just don't know...

Anyone pulling the plug on their ebay/paypal account? Or do you think it's still safe to have them?

I had a PayPal account long ago. What happened to me is I had a instant transfer done out of my checking account to pay for an auction. It wasn't a big amount, just a little over $4, but PayPal decied all of a sudden that they were going to restrict me from getting into my account. The reason was that the credit card I had been using there for along time, they didn't think it was really "mine". AAAGGGHH!!! :mad: I had been using that card for over a year on PayPal and they decied to pull that. The money that they withdrew from my checking they put in my PayPal account just to sit there and sent a email to the seller saying that my account had been restricted cause of susption {?} of a stolen credit card. Luckily she was nice enough to email me and tell me about the email and I told her they were full of crap. She told me everything was fine and that I could send a check. PayPal is lucky that I had such a understanding seller at that time.

They wanted me to supply them with alot of info, copy of driver's license, SS card, credit card statement, and I think there was somthing else. There was no way I was going to supply them with all that info, don't they realize that is where fraud starts when someone gets all of that info on someone else. But all this happened before Ebay took over PayPal. My DH has a PayPal account that I have been using and haven't had any problems what so ever.

I defintaly will be part of it, no matter how much I might get. Even if it's just $.10, that is $.10 less in their pocket. Just imgaine if everyone who uses PayPal got $.10, that really starts to add up.

Anyone know where you can find out when exactly you joined PayPal? I tried to find this information on the PayPal site, but can't. For all I know, I could have joined before that date, or was that date the start of PayPal.

I received the email. So maybe they send it out to those that joined during that timespan.

I got the email too but just deleted it because it seems to me that the only ones who ever actually get anything from a class action suit are the lawyers who file it.
