For those of you who have transferred points to another member, how & when did payment take place?

I'm looking for previous experience of what worked well.

Was it done with a conference call with MS?

Thanks so much!

I have only done it once. I received payment via Paypal from the other member and then I called MS. It was quick and easy.:goodvibes

I did a transfer in December. I paid the member via paypal and she transfered the points to my account the next day. You can not see the transfered points on the website and have to call and verify (at least that's how mine was.) My experience was great. I will likely use her again next year if is willing. I actually bought a very small contract (25 points) so that i can do transfers and be able to control my own reservations but not have the committment.

Remember it's against the DVC rules for you to receive payment for your transfered points. If MS finds out about it during a conference call, they will refuse to complete the transfer.

I've done it frequently, as a matter of fact, just last Thursday. Each and every time it's taken just about 20 minutes from beginning to end. I initiate the Paypal payment, send the DVC person my Member Account number and full name. They within minutes receive the Paypal notification that I sent payment. They call MS (that's the longest part, it depends on how long it takes to get through), make the transfer. Call or e-mail me back and the transfer points show on my account through MS immediately. I can then make the reservation as I need to. They just have to be transferred into the correct use year. You will never see them on-line, but your reservation and point usage will be there.

I've done it 6 times over the last 6 years and it's always been this easy. DVC owners can only transfer once a year for free, but you can more than one transfer in from other parties. Last week I bought transfer points from 2 people. It works like a charm because rather than renting I can combine with my existing points and manipulate my own reservations.

Related question, has anyone ever traded points? Say 100 VWL pts for 100 BCV points? I'm assuming this would be ok with MS because you aren't putting a $ value on the points?

I am surprised that you did two transfers in last week. I thought the rule currently limits each member to one transfer each year, either in or out. Do you have more than one membership number or were these to different use years? -- Suzanne

I'm surprised at this too? How were you able to do more than one transfer?

No, I only have one 210 point contract, you have one free transfer out but you can receive multiple transfers in.

This time I got 66 points from one member and 60 points from another. We have friends that decided to join us at the last minute.

Last years family reuinion needed a grand villa for 7 days, I borrowed all my points from the next year and I did the same, 2 transfers in from two different members.

That is not correct.

From the DVC rules:

"During a given Use Year, only one (1) Transfer per Club Member or Club membership, either as Transferee or Transferor, will be permitted".

Looks like you were lucky in the past. Since Disney has Team Members that read the DIS and use the information to take corrective action, you can be sure that this won't be allowed in the future.

Why would someone transfer points without "consideration"ie...compensation for the points?????????????????????????

What am I missing???????????????

Thanks!:goodvibes:goodvibes:goodvibes

Thanks for all the great anwers...it's just the way I was planning on doing it.

DIS boards is so awesome!!!

Wow I cannot believe that you were able to do that. As they have changed it to where that you are only allowed one transfer in or out a year. So I would like to know if something has changed since I have heard anything.

It's one thing for it to happen once but I've done it twice, it more than likely has to do with use years. This last transfer included 2008 UY points from one member and 2009 UY points from the other, perhaps that's why it can be done.

I actually met a few members that trade their points to each other to extend the trips.

It's supposed to be one transfer in or out per UY per master contract, so it looks like your two transfers were actually one per UY.

Thanks for clarifying - that's why it was allowed - the rule is one transfer per UY.
