My 9yo neighbor is going to be coming over once a day to feed my 2 cats while we are away for our 7 day WDW trip. This will consist of giving them a can of fresh moist food, refilling their dry food and water bowls. How much do you think would be a good amount to compensate him for this responsibility?

My DD12 gets about $10 - 20 a week for this service and the family usually brings her back a little souvenire also. Have a great vacation!

I pay a pet sitter $15 per day for 5 cats (though qty doesn't change the price).

So you could pay less than that.

How about $5 per day (if he stays an hour or less--that is good money per hour and less trouble than babysitting!) plus a thank you gift (you pick the cost) from your trip.

That would be $35 for the week plus a gift.

I would imagine there is some work she will have to do with the litter as well.

ETA: if it wasn't a neighbor and some traveling was involved--I'd do a little bit more per visit.

I watched my friend's two cats for a week while they were in Iowa. I had to give them water, change the box, take in the mail, food, just once a day. I got $70 plus a t-shirt.

But I think that's quite high.

I had my cousin do this for me once and we gave her $30, half up front and half when we came back. A small souvenior is also a nice touch.

Is he going to clean their litter box every day? since that's not the funniest job :teeth: I'd pay a little more. I'd probably pay 5-10 the high end if I thought the child might also give them some attention and play with them while he was there.

Well, since you aren't having him change the kitty litter I think that $20 and a souvenir is more than enough.

I cat sit for my neighbor's cat for two weeks so I had to clean his kitty litter once and feed him every day and I remember being given $20 and a tshirt- and I remember being SHOCKED and thinking it was wayyyy too much money. This was about 14 years ago though, so prices have gone up since then. That's why I said $20 for one week ;)

Considering he's 9yo and lives nearby I'd say $20-25 plus small souvenier is a good amount. (If it was an adult who lived farther away I would pay more). :cat:

Sorry, but I have to ask. Why the split payment? :)

We pay a sitter $15 per visit - but she takes in the mail and does the litter boxes. $20 and a souvenier sounds right to me for a young neighbor.

No litterbox duty? If not, I think that $5/day is generous for a 9yo. Is a parent going to be coming along with them? If so, even if the child is doing all the work, I'd bring back a little something for the parent (notepad and pen, for example). Kind of a thank you to the parent for making sure the job gets done.

Maybe also show the 9yo some cat toys so she can play with them a little while.

I think $15-$20 & souviner would be plenty. Have fun.

:rotfl2: You know, I'm not really sure! :confused3 It wasn't like we didn't trust her or anything. Maybe just too many movies where they use the line "We'll give you half now and you'll get the rest when the job's done." :rotfl2:

My pet sitter gets $10/day (2 cats). She scoops daily along with feeding and filling water. She brushes them and I'm sure they get some belly rubs. She stays for about half an hour. She also brings in mail and waters outdoors in the summer. Once she went to the UPS depot to get a package while we were out of town. That earned her a coffee cup from the shop in England!

We've used her coming up on ten years. Well worth it.

We take turns with our neighbors .. They pay DD $5 a day yto cat sit... Then when we go out of town we pay there son $5 a day to dog sit..

plus we each get them a small gift..

That's what I'd do too - $5/day plus a souvenir.

Thanks everyone for the input! My mom will be stopping in to tend to the litter and bring in the mail etc. I didn't want to over burden the poor kid. But he is really excited about his little "job" :teeth:

10.00-15.00 daily plus a token from Disney.

People appreciate the money and the token as well.

Happy Vacations to all!

2 weeks and counting................ :cool1: :sunny:

I have a 9 yo DS and he would be absoluely thrilled with $20 and a gift from WDW. A shirt or one of those twirlly light up spinning things or something.
