We are bringing my daughter's friend with us and her parents gave us cash for her food. Does anyone know if we can put that cash on her band so she can use it for her food for all CS meals?

If not - any other ideas for tracking her food?

Thanks!

Buy and have her use Disney Gift Cards.

Magic bands don't have anything loaded on them. They are a band with an RFID chip in it. This chip corresponds to a number that accesses your My Disney Experience information. So, that means that it simply accesses the ticket and reservation system information that is all linked to My Disney Experience.

So, you won't be able to load any kind of money on them. If you want her billing separate from yours, you'll have to buy her Disney Gift Cards as previously suggested or she'll have to carry cash with her.

If it were me, I would hold on to her cash and have her charge her food to the room using her band (which is essentially what you all do when you use your bands to charge). Then, each evening, I would have her reconcile what she has spent and give you the cash. This will allow for three things - she will keep track of what she spends daily so she doesn't go over what she has (GREAT lesson); you can make sure you are all on the same page so all costs are covered; and at the end of the trip, you can use the cash she gives you to pay her part of the bill when you settle it at departure.

One possible drawback to this is that she may spend or purchase more than she has and that is a risk you take when using this particular method. If you want to avoid it, I think gift cards are the best way to do so.

My thought is similar to Robo's, gift cards.

I would take her total food amount and split it up between the days you will be there and get a gift card for each day. Give her one card each morning to cover her day's meals. This will help keep her on budget and will help minimize the damage if she loses one. Or if you think she can handle just one card do that.

If you are going to have her use her magic band make sure that she sets up a pin number at the front desk, without the pin I don't believe she will be able to use her magic band alone for any purchases.

I have read that Disney dollars are back. This seems to confirm it.

You could trade her cash for disney dollars so she is still paying and also keeping track of what she has left.

Of course, you didn't say how old she is. If she is too young to be paying on her own, I would just keep track of the receipts and keep the appropriate amount of cash. If she is old enough to pay on her own, I would just give her the cash. If necessary, ration it daily.

Michelle06 - you are correct, Disney dollars are available. My friend and I didn't know they were available until the last day of our visit in November.

The gift cards seem like a look idea. See if you can purchase gift card with small amounts, or her parents can purchase them of maybe $20 gift cards and that can be her budget each day.

Another idea is maybe just splitting her money (talk to her parents) to what she can spend each day and giving her the amount every morning.
