Has anyone used Payless Car Rental? I got a good rate on the net. Was wondering how their service was? I know they are offsite, but do they have frequent shuttle vans? Where are they located near the airport? Are the cars clean, service quick?

Thanks for any input!

Hello Kanga88- Welcome to the Dis boards. I used them last year because their rate was terrific. We had no problems with them at all. Shuttle service was fine, just like all other off-site companys. They haven't had better rates since though, we would use them again if they offered better rates during our vacations. At the top of the page is a search button. Click on it and do a search using keyword payless car rental, this should give you some reviews.

Hi Laura,
I don't know what kind of rate you got, but I'd suggest checking Dollar also. We've always found them to be very competitive and the convenience of being right in the terminal is huge, even if you have to pay a few dollars more.

Thanks for your input guys!

I also found a competitive price with Budget (I got a Sam's Club Discount AND coupon). The difference is only $1.00 more, and for an onsite car rental, I don't think I mind paying $1.00. Nice car through Budget, too - a Mercury Sable.

I checked rates through Travelocity, and Dollar and all others besides Thrifty and Payless were pretty high. Maybe that's because we're looking for Full size car.

But with the discounts on Budget, I don't think there's a doubt in my mind, I'm going with Budget at the airport!!

Thanks for your feedback.

I think you'll be happy with that choice. Budget is a good company and, as I said in my earlier post, renting onsite is a big advantage. We rented from Alamo offsite about 7 years ago and we'll never go offsite again.

Use ANYONE but PAYLESS!!

We had a terrible experience with Payless, and I'm ashamed to admit it was my 2nd run-in with them. Their rates were so low I thought I'd give them a 2nd chance, but that time I was at least smart enough to make a back-up reservation at Alamo which we had to use. To make a long story short, the 2nd time I tried to use Payless they wanted me to sign a blank statement with my credit card number. We told them we weren't signing until they noted the rate, and the agent refused. Others might be willing to sign a blank rental agreement, but we aren't. It's the only time any company has tried to get me to sign a blank statement. Maybe that agent was going to add the insurance we'd declined in an effort to get more commission. Anyway, I wouldn't recommend Payless in the least. Both times I dealt with them they were less than honest. We've always done great with Alamo finding better rates than all the on-site companies, and now you can go through everything online including declining insurance and extras. You check-in at a kiosk much like an ATM, avoiding the line of people, and your car is parked right there. Last time it took us all of 5 min. after our quick shuttle ride to be checked in and getting in our car.
