I realize using DVC points for anything but DVC resorts is a bad conversion, but out of curiosity, can you use partial points for DCL and ABD? For example, say you need 350 points for a DCL cruise, but you only have 300, can you use your points and pay the difference for the fare?

You can't split a fare that way, but you can pay for some people in a cabin with points, and some with cash. I believe that the restrictions that apply to points then apply to the whole cabin (e.g., refund policies and timing), but it can be done.

I don't know anything about ABD.

For DCLs:
The first person in the stateroom can be all on points and all the others in stateroom can be in cash, based on a rate that DVC and DCL negotiate.
The first two people in the stateroom can be on points and all the others in stateroom can be in cash, based on a rate that DVC and DCL negotiate.
etc
In other words, you must pay the highest points rates first in points and then the others (2nd, 3rd, etc) can be at a lower cash rate, if you are using any points for a DCL stateroom.

Is this a change? Last year, we decided to book a cruise, and used points for the 3rd person in the room, and cash for the first two. It worked out in our favor, because the DVC rate is the original booking price on the cruise, and the regular cash rates were much higher. We saved $$$ in the end.

If you were able to do this, it is new to me. Twice I tried to do what you are stating and I was told that you have to start with the 1st person on points and then pay cash for those after.

Definitely did it. Enjoyed the cruise too ;)

The rule has always been pay one full adult with points. So either things have changed or you misunderstood how things happened or you just got lucky. I bet you paid the price on the chart for an adult for that one person.

Guess I got lucky. I know I didn't pay the adult price, because we didn't have enough points in that contract for an adult... plus, I keep very good track of my points, lol. I guess the DVC and DCL Gods were somehow with me...

Its about how many points you have, you can pay for the entire trip cash, but if the contract doesn't have enough points to pay the adult you get a deal.
