Paying for Royal Table with GCs

I was a little surprised that I could not pay with Disney GC when I called to make my reservation for Cinderella's Royal Table and Pirates and Pals Cruise. Can someone please confirm that I was not given false info? Just to be clear, we do not have a DDP we are paying out of pocket for our meals. They took full payment for the Royal Table and Pirates and Pals Cruise when I made the reservation.

For CRT, you can use gift cards to pay, but you have to wait until you are actually at the restaurant for your reservation. You tell them that you don't want to use the credit card you prepaid with, you want to switch it to gift cards. They will credit back your credit card. There is no way to prepay in advance with gift cards. Only a credit/debit card. I am not sure about the cruise.

This is correct (use the credit card). However, do you really want to wait until the credit shows back on your account and pay with a GC while there? If there's an issue, you've been billed twice!
