I can transfer my Disney Visa Rewards to a card and use that to pay part of my trip balance over the phone, right? I will just give them the card number like a CC?

We always just order the card before our trip and use it for food and merchandise in the parks. We're doing the dining plan, so I'd like to use my rewards to put toward the room/tickets. We're going with my parents this year and between my mom and I we'll have over $800 in rewards. I can't see how we could spend that much money during our trip, so we both want to use most of it now.

Correct.

Once you have your rewards card and have transferred your rewards to it you just need to call WDW and have them put the rewards dollars towards your reservation.
They will ask for the rewards card number and verify the amount on the card.
We paid for most of our trip this way.

I used my Disney Rewards card to pay for part of our trip today over the phone. It was easy as pie! :)

Wonderful!

I'm going to call and transfer the points to my rewards card today. My mom and I both have our old rewards cards left from last trip (they expire in Dec).

We were considering doing this too. We have around $900 in rewards points that we could use towards paying the balance on our trip. What happens if something comes up and the trip has to be cancelled? Would the rewards be refunded back to the rewards card?

Yes, and that could be a problem.

The rewards cards have an expiration date (usually December of the year after you get it). So if you cancel your trip you will still have to use those rewards points for something before they expire.

Therein lies the problem with using rewards to pay for your package.
If you have time before the trip, you're better off to use the points to buy a Disney Gift Card.
Then use the gift card to pay for the trip.
That way if you have to cancel, you get the money back onto a non-expiring gift card.

That is what I was afraid of happening. I definitely don't want to risk the points expiring if we needed to cancel. In the past, I have waited until we are on the trip to transfer to the rewards to the card. I then apply the rewards card to our room charge at the end of the stay. I guess I will just continue to do that.
