I tried to search but couldn't find the answer, but does it cost to bank points? A friend has a timeshare and there is a fee to bank points, does Disney charge to bank points to the next year?
Don't even joke! If they pull that stuff with DVC it will lose a lot of it's luster in my eyes. One of the best things about the DVC points system is the relative flexibility and freedom and "liquid" points.
That is one of the reasons that I purchase. I own other timeshares other than DVC and they nickel and dime you to death! They charge you to bank or deposit into next year. They charge you if it is not your home resort. They charge you to deposit into RCI.
If there is a time limit of when you can use your banked points. We banked points and were planning to use them this next sept. 2011 but found out that because of the timing of when we banked them, we have to use or rent them out by August.
Not sure if this is helpful information to you but something you may want to check out.
I personally think in some ways DVC should look to implement some sort of fee schedule for certain transactions (ie. over X number of reservation modifications, etc.). There are many people who call very frequently to make modifications (especially walking) that increase the dues of everyone else (usage).
I think if online reservations is a success, actual phone calls over X number per year related to reservations should be charged. What X is, I guess is subject to debate and analysis.
But would you pay a fee if you could bank or borrow two years worth of points? I believe that one of the major timeshares charges a fee to bank points, but it allows owners to bank those points into the next two UYs.
