Has anyone ever paid for the third adult on the 7 day cruise while using your points for the first 2 adults? I would like to invite my MIL to come with us but not sure amount she would be paying. Does it matter that she's a FL resident senior? Thanks

I haven't done this myself, but I have asked a disney rep. the same question and the answer is yes, you can use points for 2 adults and pay cash for the third. The amount depends on when you are going and what category.

The price for the third adult will be a flat rate that has already been determined in the contract between DCL and DVC. No discounts will apply. You will not be able to obtain a FL Resident price nor any special incentive.

You will also be responsible for the $75 booking fee when you actually make the ressie with DVC. I have cruised on cash only, on DVC points only and on a combo of DVC points and cash. You will definitely pay more for the 3rd adult when booking with points than you would on a totally cash reservation. But when weighing all things, if you truly want to book with points, then it will still be well worth it! Good luck! :)

I have been wondering this same thing myself. Does anyone know how close to the website price or brochure price the rate would be? Does DVC negotiate a cheaper price with DCL than their flat no discount rate, is it actually a higher rate than what you see on their website (without a discount code) or is it even more?

Bumping up. Just wondering if anyone who has done this would mind sharing what they had to pay for the extra person, what cruise you were on (3,4 or 7 day) and what the category was. Thanks.

I am considering this very thing right noew. As per MS only the first adult passenger per cabin needs to use points if you want to use the point/cash option.
At this time, I am planning on using points for the adults and cash for the children as the discounted difference for cash only is not as big w/children.

A suggestion that was given to me by a Disney cruise person (who is also a DVC member) is to book and pay the $200 deposit per person at the early booking price(if it applies) w/ DCL and then wait to see if DVC offers any cruise specials prior to the time of the cruise and then decide if you want to cancel the res. w/ Disney Cruise Line, and get your deposit refunded, then book w/ DVC.

Of course this seems a bit complex, but at least their are options when you are a DVC member.

FYI-If using points, the $75 fee is per transaction, not per cabin. So if you book more than one cabin and pay cash for some of the passengers in each cabin, but use points for the first adult in each cabin, you only pay one fee.

The more I learn, the more confused I get!!!

As for the cash price, it is very similar to the EBS price. I suggest going to the DCL website, using the quote option, put in your cruise for just the two of you, then get another quote with your MIL. The difference in the prices is a close approximation of the EBS price (not exact).

Nezy - be very careful doing what you propose - it could work, but it may backfire too.

Keep in mind to book through DCL and then switch to a DVC paid cruise is two separate reservations. A cruise booked with DCL cannot be transferred to DVC points later. The DCL one will be cancelled (subject to penalties if within 60 days of cruise). Then you will be booking a new reservation with your DVC points. You could jepordize a specific dinner seating and/or a specific cabin location.

On a full cruise, you could also possible jepordize your catagory. If your catagory is full on the cash reservation and there are people guarenteed for that catagory. As soon as you cancel the first reservation, a "guarenteed" cruiser will get your room. Then when you try to rebook, the catagory may not be available. (DVC will not book a room in a guarenteed status)

I know that it is risky. What I will probably do is reserve now through DCL because I cannot book through DVC and at the 11month reservation period I will see what my points and cash options are.

Thank you for the advice and heads up.
