I'm just about to pay our deposit and I wondered if anybody had an opinion as to whether I would be better paying in pounds or dollars. Feeling confuddled!
If you pay in Pounds, you can't add the DCL insurance, if it something you wish to purchase.
They only take Visa and MasterCard for bookings in Pounds. If paying in Dollars, you can use other cards like American Express.
If you change your booking, the cost in Pounds will recalculate to whatever the current exchange is, so you may end up paying much more if the exchange changes a lot since your original booking.
If you don't change the booking, the price you book at will stay locked in, even if the exchange plummits.
Thanks Sarah. That's exactly the sort of info I was after. Not sure if locking in at the current exchange rate is a good or bad thing but then I'd need a crystal ball to get an answer to that!
If you book in £'s you can't transfer it to a US travel agent and get their on board credit.
Have you contacted Dreams to see how much they will give you. I paid for ours in dollars last year. When the dollar went up a bit, I paid a bit of it off. I ha budgeted for 1.55, so when it hit 1.60 i paid the balance. It did 1.65 before full payment was due, but I wasn't prepared to gamble.
Also...not sure if you have had any On Board Credit (OBC) awarded by Disney.
Check with Dreams Unlimitedhttp://www.dreamsunlimitedtravel.com/cruise/ and transfer your booking from Disney to them.
It costs nothing to do and you may qualify for more OBC.
In August for our Disney Dream cruise , I booked with DCL - got $25 OBC and then transferred to DU and got a further $100 OBC (It depends on what grade of cabin that you book as to how much OBC is given)
I don't know how accurate this is but I read on another forum that if you pay in GBP you can't pre-order any gifts or packages to your stateroom if that's something you may have been interested in.
Also I found that if you pay in pounds then you want to pre-pay your tips they have to take it in pounds. In the end I opted to pay on board as I wanted to use my suntrust card and didn't want it hit for an international usage fee.
Yeah, wanted to pay DCL in the USA an amount that would be converted into USD but I would have been charged and international conversion fee on my US debit card for them to then convert it back to USD...
