I was reading a thread where members were talking about paying cash for DVC resorts on weekends to save points. Do members get cheaper rates than renters? Otherwise, I don't see the advantage of paying $300 + a night. You already had to pay $15,000 to get in the DVC.

Any examples of cash savings, etc. would be greatly appreciated.

It's 25% off rack rate. I've done it for a Friday or Saturday night to stretch my points, I really did not want to buy more points. At OKW, it's 48 points for a 1 bedroom in May for a weekend night. I paid around $320 cash, which would be about $6.67 a point. I figured that was about the same as adding on when you consider the annual dues plus the cost of an add-on.

We are paying cash for 12/30/06-1/2/07 at VWL because we can not get the villa on pts for those 3 nights and we do not want to move villas or resorts. We are on a waitlist for those 3 nights but have very little hope it will come through because it is the New Years holiday. We are not too thrilled at paying cash but we really want to be at WDW for New Years and really want VWL. So cash it will be. Thank goodness the other 8 nights are all on pts.

I would do it in the situations above....not necessarily to save my points but to stretch my points. Also, if I couldnt get all my dates on points I would pay cash to avoid moving.
