Pay someone to hang your Christmas lights?

Have you ever paid someone else to hang your outside lights? I read about it in the local paper a few weeks ago but didn't bother saving the article. We moved into a new house in May so this is our first Christmas here. DH was going to start hanging them today but attempted to get onto the very steep roof and chickened out. Now what do I do?

I would love to hire someone to do our decorating. We just don't have a lot of time for it lately. But I know it won't happen.

Have you tried looking at your local paper online and using their search feature to see if you can locate the article?? Maybe you can find the phone number this way.

My MIL, when she used to live in practically a million dollar house....used to have an interior decorator do her lights outside and in each year as well as decorating "all their trees"......one in the greatroom, the library, poolroom (swimming) and basement. Each had its own kinda theme.......Since StepFIL died she has recently moved to a small house and does her own now.

They also came and took everything down afterwards too.....

My parents moved into a new house last year. This year they wanted to have their whole house trimmed with lights so they hired someone. They put them up and while they are doing that they make a map and mark the strands. They take care of all maintenence. And they take them down. They will also buy all of the lights (included in your fee) and then you keep them and each year they put them up for you again. They also changed the light bulbs in the house fixtures to colored ones.

This cost my parents $300, including buying all new lights. My Dad thought it was VERY worth it (since he didn't have to do it himself.)

make sure they carry insurance, in case of an accident, you don't want to be sued...

Our sorority partnered with a fraternity to do this as a charity funraiser every year for Children's Hosptial, I think they called it Watts for Tots. We did it on a dontation basis. Just a thought, it may be worth looking into if you live in a college town, or may be a good fundraiser idea for your group. I know lots of DISers praticipate in various charities.... anyone do this?

We only put lights up for the first time last year & we did it oursleves. It was a bit of trial & error,but the overall effect was really effective.

I think putting the lights up is a LOT more fun than taking them down--I'd hire someone to do the depressing work after the holidays; how's that for a compromise?

I have done this the last 3 years this will be the 4th time for me . We live in a 2 story and even though my husband will shimmy up a ladder into a burning house he will not go up there to hang lights !
They come they put them up and then on the 3rd of Jan they come and take them down roll them up, box them, and take them up into the attic .
Well worth every dime !

Wish we had this service around here!! My DH's Grandma (63 and thinks she's 23) decided one afternoon to put up lights on her new home and fell off the ladder on Halloween! She broke her wrist and cracked a couple ribs, her face looked like hamburger and one eye was completely swollen shut She spent Halloween in the hospital but she's doing good now! My BIL finished putting the lights up for her... she's very lucky!! Oh and on the way bringing her to the hospital my MIL hit a deer and totalled her car! What a night!
