Pay for Overnight Sitter

I would probably ask around at the hospital. Surely there are other single parents around working 3rd shift.

Doesn't sound like the ex is fabulous, but...he IS an option if he lives closeby. Could be seen as giving him more visitation if the kids stayed overnight with him while you work, but on the other hand, everyone is just sleeping. That's all moot if he's rotten, of course.

When I switched over to 3rd shift last month, I asked him if he would take the kids during the night & then take them to school. He agreed, I accepted the job. The weekend before I started the job he said he wasn't going to take them. Apparently his girlfriend that he lives with (we're not even divorced yet) doesn't want them to sleep there b/c she doesn't want them to tear up her house. Sorry but how much damage & trouble can they cause if they're sleeping? Just trying to have a back up plan if the judge says they don't have to go with him since neither one wants to.

You know your kids - one night is one thing, but steady - I would find at least two people who would rotate. Might be too much for one person 5 nights a week. College student/older woman (has older kids/no kids, young mom looking to make a few extra bucks, etc.).

Look at your local community college, hospital, church bulletin, neighbor and spread the word.

Good luck.

Is it Sun night through Thursday night or Monday night through Friday night?

Reading more of your situation, I would probably try to find two different college age kids and have one do 2 nights, and the other do the other two nights. If it is a Sunday overnight, I would probably leave the kids on their own that night. If it is a Friday overnight, maybe ask the ex to keep them that one night (to avoid the "party" situation). I think with you not having a place to board someone long term, your options would be much more limited and I don't think it would be easy to find one person to commit for all 5 nights every week unless you are paying a really pretty penny.

I do like the suggestion of 2 sitters & alternate the # of nights between them. Problem is it's hard to find 1, not sure what my chances are of finding 2. I think I'm going to see if I can put a notice in our church bulletin.

Unless you know someone, i wouldnt do a college studnt. You would be increasing the party risk with that imho.and o you live near a college?

I think an older person would be a better bet. I bet you could find that. Or what about even someone on 1st or 2nd shift? That needs to be close to the hospital to sleep? That might be your best relable bet.

Yes, two people. You will definitely need a back up. Ask around, church bulletin great place to start.

We even find private aides for the elderly here through the church. People who want to do this, call the church and they have a list. Not all churches do this so you might have to go to more than one.

I probably would have had to have someone with my kids, even at those ages, as my oldest dd is very bossy and the other 2 would be at her mercy! :scared1: The overnight part makes me think someone to stay over is a good idea as well.

I wish you lived close to me! I would do this in a heartbeat for some extra Disney money:)

My Boys are 15 & 12. They wouldn't have a party or sneak girls into the house. I still wouldn't leave them sleeping in the house alone. During the day, yeah of course. My reason is my 15 year old sleeps like the dead! The house could be on fire & he wouldn't move. Then it would be up to the 12 year old to drag his 6' 180lb brother outside. Not happening!

OP I don't have an answer for you. But I wish you luck. You know your kids so do what your comfortable with.

Absolutely! House fires, home invasions, rapists, ect.... the money that it would cost to pay an adult to be there for safety and support would be well worth it for peace of mind!
