Didn't really want to start a whole thread for this, but had nowhere else to post it.

Can you pay for DVC with gift cards?

However, I believe you may be able to get 0% interest for 6 months if you use your Disney Visa credit card to fund the purchase.

Unfortunately, can't get Disney Visa in Canada. There's a little FX trick I found on the boards with buying Disney gift cards that could have saved me $600 so would have been nice.

and only if you select to pay them annually. You can’t pay monthly with gift cards

Actually, you can pay monthly with GC. We have ours set up on monthly bank draft on the 15th, but around the first of the month I buy Target GC with our Red Card discount. Then I go online to the DVC dues website. Click Pay Balance, click Pay by Contract, enter the $ amount then the GC number, and voila!

What you can’t do is pay monthly by credit card, only by Disney GC and Disney Rewards card.

...my guide lied to me!

Maybe just didn’t know. I didn’t learn how until this year!

I was pretty direct with my questions and he said that the monthly had to be drawn from a bank account only. The only way to use a gift card was to do yearly.

If he wasn’t certain I would’ve preferred for him to ha e said so. Either way...not a huge deal

I think that this option of paying with a GC is probably something someone figured out I know when I set up auto deduct and asked, I was told the same thing, it must come from a checking account, So, even if one can now go on monthly and pay that way, you still need to have and provide a checking account that is set up for the payments. What I heard, though, is that if you go on and pay like this, even with a credit card, it doesn’t stop the auto deduct that month. Not sure if this is true or not.

That is true. It subtracts the amount you pay from the upcoming payment and auto deducts the balance from your checking account at the time the regular monthly payment is due (no matter how tiny!). If you pay more than that month’s regular amount it reduces the following month’s deduction. So very flexible!

That’s good to know! I thought it would still deduct reguLar amount and it would be like prepaying. IF it adjusts the following month then it may be something to consider!,,

Nope, as long as you pay a little more than the amount "due" in current month, your checking account won't get hit with a withdrawal. This is the first year I have done the MF's monthly payment plan, and I always make sure to pay the "monthly balance due" with GCs for the next month a week or 2 ahead of time, haven't had a problem all year with my checking account. Bonus, I buy GC from BJ's at a 4% discount so I am saving 4% on my dues. :)

Yep, my experience is the same as @matty B13’s. We’ll probably be paid off in October or November.

Then the plan is to see whether we can keep paying monthly and build up a credit for 2020 in advance. Anyone know whether that will work? I think I read a post here to that effect once but I’m not sure.

Yes. You can continue to add GCs and carry a credit balance that will offset future dues.

Just an update. This will not work with a CC, only GC, or Disney Rewards Redemption Card.

However, it may be worth signing up for a Target Red Card, just to buy the GC. With 800 points, getting 5% back by paying via GC, is a nice bonus!

Yep, that's exactly what we do!

You are correct about the credit cards, I forgot to mention that. I think I tried once but got the error message that comes up when paying with CC.

No worries. Actually getting the Target Red card and GC will actually give me more back than the 2% from CC. I’m excited!,,
