Is it possible to buy Pay as You Go mobile phone SIM cards at Disneyworld or top up vouchers for a PAYG mobile?
I am travelling from the UK but need to use my phone whilst there. It is too expensive to use my English mobile whilst in the US.
thanks in anticipation.

I know before I went to London in 04 we had to buy a phone that would work in London, because of the Sim card. My husband knows all about tech stuff and looked into the phone issue before we went. We figured it was cheaper than using calling cards since I would want to call home several times a day. I don't believe your phone will work, but you should contact your cell phone provider.

When I went to Europe, I also had to buy a cheap phone to use in Europe, but that was when the American GSM network was still young, and I didn't have a GSM phone in the US, where that was the standard in Europe. Now that the US is catching up to the rest of the world wireless-wise, I'm pretty sure we all use GSM network phones.

The thing is, I don't think you can just go in the store and buy a pre-paid SIM in the US. I think the way you have to do it is to buy the whole phone (and then they recharge the SIM that comes in the phone). I know Cingular Wireless and Virgin Mobile each offer pay-as-you-go, and if I'm not mistaken, you can get a phone as cheap as $50, so that may be the way you might want to go.

Someone else who has actually done this probably knows a lot more than me, though!

Thankyou for your replies.
I appreciate that there are differences between the USA and Europe when it comes to mobile phones, however, I'd still like to know if you can buy Pay as You Go phones or SIM cards at Disneyworld.
I know I can buy one in Orlando city but I was not planning to go off the Resort.
My UK mobile phone is Tri-Band and will work in the USA but I would like to buy a local service SIM card as it is a cheaper way of making calls in the US or back to the UK.
Any further answers to my question would be appreciated.
thanks, Simpix

Hi Simpix :wave2:

I'm no expert in this matter at all but I can't recall ever seeing SIM cards or PAYG mobile phones for sale at WDW itself. That's not to say they don't sell them, just I have never seen them.

Would it be an option for you to travel to an offsite location such as WalMart? I beleive you can pick up a very reasonable mobile there (I have seen posts that say people have purchased one for $19.99)

Sorry to be no more help then that.

Karen
