Hi, I used Paxil for about 18months.. it helped me to be able to deal with a number of stressful events. During my usage I had no problems.
HOWEVER.... Coming OFF the Paxil was a completely different situation.
It took two tries to come completely off the med. Paxil withdrawl is a serious problem for some people. I had auditory hallucinations, panic attacks (never a before a problem) rages, severe crying jags, skin hypersensitivity..... I was able to finally wean off the Paxil by adding a small dose of wellbutrin-short term as I decreased the Paxil amount. It took almost 2 months to wean off the Paxil. This was all done under close MD supervision. THAT Horrid withdrawl problem was a huge surprise. The first time I tried to come off~ my Internal Med doc (primary md) tried to have me come off cold turkey.. bad mistake for which she profusely apologized . Anyway, she spoke to several psychiatrists and they gave her information on Paxil Withdrawl.. it has been documented to be a serious problem, especially for long term users of Paxil. I wanted to come off the drug become I had become completely lacadaisical... I was completely passive with a
"who give a flying fig" attitude. So it was time for me to come off the meds. I am happy to say that the Paxil did help me get thru a time when I needed a little help to get thru a very, very rough part of my recovery.
NOW THAT BEING SAID....Many, Many people have absolutely NO PROBLEM with Paxil and find it a Godsend.
Best wishes... and if you have any ? feel free to PM
