I am a really big fan of Queen. And nobody can replace Freddy, IMO. I have never been a huge fan of Bad Company, though I guess I liked them well enough in their day. I also saw Bad Company a few years ago at a House of Blues and was not impressed with Paul Rodgers. His voice was horrible at the show I saw.

So, it was with deep trepidation that I bought "Return of the Champions", the new Queen DVD, with Paul Rodgers as the singer. And I must say he did a GREAT job. And he didn't try to replace Freddy; he just gave the songs his own style. And they were very good!

As the DVD progressed, I saw an upcoming "Oh No!" kind of moment. It was Bohemian Rhapsody. I was kinda worried as this really is Freddy's masterpiece. So, I won't give it away, but let's just say that what was on the DVD was VERY COOL. I loved how they handled it.

If you buy concert DVDs, and are a fan of Queen, I would say this is a must see, or must have.

I'm glad you enjoyed the DVD.

I just can't do it, though.

I saw Queen back in the 70's and that concert still ranks as one of the best I've ever seen. IMHO, there is no Queen without Freddie Mercury. I simply do not want to imagine the band any other way.

Saw the thread and for a second I thought you meant Paul Rogers and THE Queen! That would be quite a combo! I don't know, I'm a 70's alumnus too and I miss Freddie!

I loved Freddie too but I also realize that the other members of Queen probably have the right to go on. I'll give it a listen but I feel the same way about the current Journey without Steve Perry. It just isn't right.

By the way, I saw INXS with their new singer on one of the talk shows. He wasn't Michael but the performance was surprisingly good!

I love Queen. I love Bad Company. Freddy Mercury was one of those lead singers whose style is so unique that it's the band's signature. Not to diminish the other members, but Queen with someone else isn't the same.

It's good to hear that Paul gives his own style to the songs and doesn't try to "be" Freddy. Queen could have done a lot worse than Paul Rodgers, and I like that they're billing themselves as "Queen + Paul Rodgers". It gives them their own identity and doesn't diminish Freddy.

hmm...I just don't know if I can do it either.

I loved Queen.

You could. It's been 10+ years.
