Patrons should demand that Beach Blanket Buffett personnel require hand sanitization

on the Alaskan Cruise that ended on July 12th; personally witnessed 2 patrons that refused to sanitize hands before entering the Beach Blanket Buffett but still went through line; witnessed another patron who placed the serving tongs directly on her hands and then replaced the tongs to be used again; whole family contracted Norwalk; have reported all of this to the Cruise Line; Patrons should demand that ALL passengers sanitize prior to being allowed to go through the Buffett line

It has been proven that hand sanitizers aren't nearly as good as soap and water. And in terms of the virus you can pick it up anywhere not just on the ship - so yes nice to be cautious but just using hand sanitizers when entering an eating area won't keep the virus from spreading.

I certainly agree about using soap and water first, and that hand sanitizer is better than nothing at least.

However, does make me wonder how we all survived going out to restaurants in the "old days" before hand sanitizers and wipes. I'm sure some folks may have made a trip to the restroom to wash their hands back then but willing to bet most didn't. Somehow we made it through.

As far as the tongs go, chances are no one would get sick from that but just knowing it myself I would report it right away to a CMl on the food line to change it out. I would hope others would do that same if noticed before I came along.

Consider using hand santizers and/or anti-bacterial wipes after getting food (with the tongs) and before eating. We cannot control what others do, but we can control our own actions and be proactive. I would carry hand santizers with me in my waist pouch. Hope this helps.

So I guess I would not be allowed to eat there at all if your requirement were enacted.

I'm allergic to the wipes. I wash my hands before I go and just inform the person handing them out that I'm allergic.

I am also allergic... But I do carry a liquid type that I can and do use... Often.
I think it's a horrible situation when things that used to be suggestions (albeit good ones) become rules. I am an adult, and I am responsible and aware and can make my own decisions. Please don't let your fear take away my right to choose!

I agree w/ the previous poster who questioned how we all survived before handwipes and liquid hand sanitizer. Buffets carry the risk of patrons doing icky things...sneezing, coughing, etc... If you don't want to take the risk don't eat there.

Yes I believe it is good practice, but not everyone can use them. The wipes can irritate some folks skin. If you saw someone at the buffet acting in a way that was not correct with the buffet untensils then you need to report it. That's all you can do.
