Patrons not as *all out* as WDW?

This will be our first time visiting DisneyLAND.

We've been watching videos and stuff. Is it US or are guests at DL less into the whole dressing up and going "overboard" on apparel?

Yes, there does seem to be Disney shirts here and there, but there doesn't seem to be many people wearing ears, silly hats, pin lanyards...

Is it because DL has a lot more "locals" and less far away tourists who have saved up big bucks to be there? Or is it just a luck of the draw with the videos we're watching and there are actually tons of folks wearing this stuff?

Just curious really...

I am interested to see the replies, as I have not been to DL since 1995.
I recall seeing families and couples in matching shirts, etc. and being much younger and "cooler" :cool2: then, making fun of them.

Now that I have 2 littles of my own, I absolutely cannot wait to get them all decked out in Disney gear! I have even picked up some shirts of my own and will slap one on DH, too, if I can get him to play along! :earsboy:

I think a lot of locals don't go all out, though some do. But some are only there for a few hours, and may go all out on planned all day trips and not on spur of the moment trips. I did shirts for our first trip in September. We did Halloween shirts (non Disney) for Halloween and I saw an awful lot of "I believe" red shirts from Target last Xmas (I guess I wasn't the only one who thought it was cute :lmao:). It may not be as noticeable in the videos you saw, or maybe DLR tourists don't go AS all out as WDW guests so that's why you see less and DLR regulars don't?

I would say this is the reason. DL has mostly guests going on day trips and are very casual. Some too casual in dress. WDW has people going who packed for a week for a rare vacation opportunity. They are spending more money and more likely to pick up a souvenire and wear it the next day.

We always dress up, we wear silly hats and pin lanyards (we have thousands of pins we've traded for) so some people do and some don't. Makes no difference to me, I do what I want when I get packed. :) We've even worn Disney themed tattoos, I've painted my toenails red with white spots (minnie's bow), done my fingernails funky colors.......I do what I want and what I think is fun, I don't care if I get strange looks. :)

I always buy a t-shirt and sweatshirt when I get there... and where it that night, and the rest of the trip!
I've a few Goofy hats in my day as well, and ears!

I bought one of the "Believe" tees from Target this year, its purple. I also get ears for the kids and wear lanyards to brag off my pin collection and hold my fastpasses. My DD9 got a princess makeover last trip and the one before that she got her face painted.

good to hear there are Disney nuts at the West parks as well ;)

Don't get me wrong, nothing would stop my family! Not what I was implying at all :) ... I was just curious.

This past trip last week there were lots of people wearing hats and ears. I even wore ears for the first time. :) And even more people were wearing lanyards. And then don't forget the locals that are so in to pin trading that they bring giant books of pins and camp out for hours at tables throughout the park.

I think you will see less, but in no way would it be viewed negatively....we westerners are very "seek your bliss" oriented! We want you to be happy!

Everytime we visit I see plenty of Disney wear. I would say though that its more "Disneyland" vintage wear and not the "neon let's all wear the same color shirt" style that you will see in WDW.

My impressions are also that DLR visitors are MUCH more interested in the mickey-ears hats and really go all out for style, flare, and monograming. This is a right of passage at DLR and not so much at WDW.

Although I did notice a lot fewer pin lanyards, I did see a gentleman with a pin JACKET. :scared1: He had so many pins he had to forego the lanyard thing. (But, was he a WDW-ite....hmmm we'll never know). I also saw some pin trading going on.

I did notice a few groups with matching shirts, too.

I guess it's all part of the fun in comparing the different vibes you get at either location.

Sorry a little OT but when I read your subject, I read Patron ( as in tequilla) :lmao: Wow it's definitely Friday and I'm sooooo on my way to the Land right now! :rotfl2:

Ok, so you'll be the one hanging out at the Margarita stand or "hand-crafted" beer stand on Pacific Wharf, huh?

We alwayas wear matching shirts that we make for what ever time of year it is. Here we are in our Halloween shirts.

We just cut Mickey Heads out of Disney Halloween fabric.

Plus I always have on my pink Mickey Crocs and my pin lanyard.

Having worked at both resorts, I will say that WDW does have more Guests who tend to dress up specifically for their visits. However, I think this has to do more with the strong tourism presence in Central Florida than anything specific to Disney. I noticed the same thing on a recent visit to Nassau in the Bahamas, from Guests arriving on all cruise lines, not just Disney Cruise Line.

A larger percentage of Guests to DLR are local, and thus less inclined to dress up for what they see as a day-trip.

Of course, as long as you comply with the apperance guidelines established by the Disneyland Resort, you are free to wear whatever you feel like doing so.

I have been to Disneyland 5 times this year and almost never dress up. I view it as going to any theme park and I would never dress up for Sea World. I know, I know, there is a ton of difference. It's just that a lot of us pop over to DL for day trips on spur of the moment so we don't think about dressing up. Whereas at WDW it is a big event to go. You save and plan for quite a while. So many local people can run over to Disneyland after work and whatnot it is a whole different vibe. That doesn't mean we don't love our DL as much as anyone though. We will fight for the right to tell you DL is superior to WDW any day.:cool1:

I see less "costumes" on kids at DLR than WDW and being a DLR vet find it a bit odd when kids wear them at WDW. As for special shirts it seems to me they are equally popular at DLR vs. WDW.

In any case, we sometimes go "all out"! See below our colorful shirts at the World of Color viewing area! :goodvibes

I tried to buy a sweatshirt when we went in August and they were all too big for me :sad2:
