Patriotism - Fly Your Flag With Pride

I remember during last years European football championship, supermarkets and eveywhere were selling the little flags to put in our cars, but then it was in the papers about councils saying they were gonna fine anyone doing this, absolutly pathetic.

That's a good example of why you should rarely believe anything you read in the papers!

Just what were these councils suppose to fine you for doing?

The council fining people for the car flags thing apparently happened around here. Supposedly they were snapping off (they did bend impressively at high speeds!) and hitting the cars behind which could potentially cause an accident. I never heard of it happening (nor did I hear of anyone actually being fined) though. It could possibly be an urban myth.

I remember during Euro 2004 a huge number of England flags went up in Leeds. Every street had several houses with flags in the windows or hung as banners from gutters etc. The pubs were covered in England flags too. Strangely it seemed to be concentrated on the council estates for some reason, although houses on the new "middle class" estates had them too, including us!

So it was more to do with unsafe objects being atteched to the outside of cars rather than the fact that they were Union flags or the Cross of St George? That does, at least, sound more reasonable than people being prosecuted for displaying national flags!

I'm not sure that local Councils would be the right organisation to prosecute people for traffic offenses - surely that is the job of the police?

Sounds like an urban myth to me as well.

I have a few of the uk / american flag pins lying around, I give them to pin trading friends when they venture to the uk for a visit.

I am happy to get some more if folks want them, I think they were about £2 /per pin.
would cost about 50pence to post in the uk and about £1 to send to the US, based on my normal costs for postage when pin trading.

Feel free to e-mail /message me if anyone wants them - if loads do, i will put them on my ebay account to make it easier.
