We've been looking for a new dining room set for forever and a day. Our budget is not limitless and we've been disappointed at the quality available in our price point (and would prefer to avoid endangered woods or items made in China). A few weeks ago at a local no-name furniture place we found a set we like - a table with leaf, six chairs, hutch - for a really great price that was still a bit of a reach, with delivery $150 extra. We hemmed and hawed and finally decided not to bite and continue looking.

Yesterday my husband was dropping our son off at an arcade for a party and decided to stop in at another no-name place and found the exact same set (but with four chairs) for over $1,500 less, with free delivery! Even adding in two additional side chairs, the cost was $1,000 less.

I didn't believe him when he told me, so he took me back today. It was true and our new set is due to arrive in two weeks. Sometimes procrastination works out!

ETA: The set was assembled in the U.S. of components cut in Vietnam. Not optimal, but better than we thought we thought we could expect. The chairs were made in West Virginia. Overall, we're pleased with that outcome.

Most of our furniture is hand-me-downs, so I have been shocked when looking into purchasing new furniture! I can't believe there was such a huge price difference between stores. Good for you for trying to purchase something made in USA. If I had the budget, I would purchase all our furniture from a lovely local store where everything is made locally. It's excellent quality, but past what we can afford.

If you have a difficult time purchasing furniture that fit your criteria in the future, ana-white.com has some amazing (and FREE!) DIY furniture plans - think pottery barn styling.

Gotta Love a Deal!
Woo Hoo!

We've been looking for an office chair for months. I refused to spend another $150+ for a piece of junk that will only last six months. (Can you tell we've been there, done that?)
We went to a Borders store that was going out of business yesterday so my daughter could use her Christmas gift card. They were selling everything, the shelves, the dining tables, the couches. I scored a commercial quality desk chair for $35. Used, but sturdy! The fabric is still good, but it's the type of chair I could recover if it becomes necessary. I was thrilled. :thumbsup2
