... that uses the DIS Boards as a "grown-up"
conversation outlet?

Yeah, I'm addicted to the boards now,
like so many of us -
but after all day with my DS, 18 months
(whom I love with all my heart)
DH (I love him, too) comes home & is in bed
early every night (early to bed, early to rise),
so I find myself using the boards as my one-sided
conversation after everyone's in bed.

Am I sick, or what??

And yeah, I'm quite aware that I need a vacation!!!

Yes. My close friends have moved away to far away places-states and countries so it's not as easy to keep in touch with them. I do get to keep in touch with some other friends via emails and such, and with no working outside of the house, it is harder to find other adults to have an "adult conservation" with.
Right now the vote results are at 5 for yes, so we are not the only ones.

We have a playgroup on Fridays. That's generally the only time during the week when I get actual adult conversation. You're not the only one.

Count me in here too. DH tends to be gone a lot for work so I am home alone with the kids alot.

I can relate. My kids are 7 & 4 and DH works 11 hours a day. So for the most part its me and them(and sometimes their friends) all day. Its nice to pop in here from time to time and have adult conversations....especially when they are driving me nuts. The Dis is sort of my escape. ;)

Oh definitely! Even now that I do get to talk to grown ups. :)

Yup to some degree I use the computer as a virtual friend. I used to love the old debate board because it helped to get my mind flowing.

Not pathetic at all!
I had a family daycare for 11 years and after being with kids all day, I liked to sit and DIS in the morning before they all came for the day. That was back in 1998 and I've been DISing ever since...Lets face it, it's FUN!
a GALS got to have a little FUN:teeth:

It's hard sometimes when you're stuck in the house with only little ones. I don't think it's pathetic. If you're really going stir crazy, you should try looking for a playgroup.

Yep! Me too! I just got done "fighting" with my 4 1/2 yr old about why he can't play his gamecube all day and putting my cranky 4 month old down for a nap. Just popping in for a break! :)

SAHM here too. During nap time you guys sure beat watching Dr. Phil or some soap opera. Yes, I know I culd be cleaning the house, but I's MUCH rather be Dis'ing with you'all!::yes::

Hey, I'm glad I started this!

Thanks for the suggestion re: playgroups,
I'm already onto it...
I'm not really stir crazy (at least most days),
just wanting some grown-up conversation
on a more regular basis - that's where the
DIS boards come in!

I haven't been able to take DS into group
settings with children until very recently,
because he has shown strong allergic reactions
to antibiotics - which if you take a moment
to think about it, it's really terrifying!
What in the world will we do if he gets
a serious infection??
(And, in addition there are some other health issues).

His Dr. is extremely concerned,
and made sure I was not taking DS to
daycare, church nursery, etc.
We couldn't even have a first birthday party
for him, just DGM and 2 friends...

So now, we are slowly venturing into
the realm of close contact with other children.
Since he was born (now 19 months ago on Tuesday)
we've had to control who he was exposed to,
in terms of anyone exhibiting sickness.

The good thing is that we have NOT put him
in a "bubble" - we don't hesitate to take him
out into public situations (the mall, fairs, etc.).
It's not "the sniffles" that are a concern,
it's actual infection i.e. flu, strep, staph, etc...
We have just had to severely limit any
close contact with others.
(You may have read my vents/comments on
the thread "What's Wrong With People?").

The ironic thing is that DS is really very
healthy, and looks it too!
We hate to treat him like he's "sick,"
but his life may literally depend on it...

Anyway, thanks for listening, and for
all your encouraging comments :chat:
