Hi and thank you in advance to helping me. My dh and i take our grandchildren to disneyland for their 4th birthday. We have taken solo granddaughter trip, a granddaughter and grandson trip and two trips with more than one granddaughter. However this May we are taking one grandson. We usually do the Ariels lunch with the children but he is not interested in that. So I need ideas for s boys trip. We get the children costumes for their special lunch and he wanted Woody although he loves Jake and the cars also. We always do the Pat E Cake party and whatever else we can find to make the trip full of magical memories but I need boy ideas. Thank you so much!

Pat E Cake has been discontinued. Maybe ask him what he wants to do. Maybe he wants do Jedi Academy. Maybe Build A Bear or Ridemakerz. I wouldn't try to make it equal to what a girl wanted to do on her birthday. Some kids will be happy just looping a favorite ride or getting some individual attention without siblings around.

I got the Cars outfit for my 3 yr old Grandson and he loved it! He got a lot of attention from the cast members also, who thought he was adorable...and he was! LOL! My grandson didn't care where he ate, he was more interested in the rides. The Rain Forest Cafe is always a fun place to take kids. No Disney characters, but my grand kids still love it!:thumbsup2

I'm taking my son for his 4th birthday next week. Right now the plan is to get a birthday button (obviously...), and we're going to do a character breakfast on his birthday. I've booked a Fantasmic reservation, but I'm not sure yet if I'll keep it or not.

Right now the biggest part of the plan is to do as many rides on Thunder Mountain Railroad as he wants. Which could be a lot. Last time the CM's were giving him high 5's every time we went through :/

That outfit is amazing!

That being said, there seems to be much more marketed to girls in terms of costumes, etc. Which is great for the wallet...

You can always order a birthday cake to be delivered to your table. There is an extra cost and you have to have a reservation. I know that one of the places that do it is Carnation Cafe. Disneyland's website has info about it at https://disneyland.disney.go.com/events-tours/birthdays/. Looks like you have to order the cake at least 3 days ahead of time.

You can get the birthday button at City Hall or at hotel check in if you're staying at PPH, GCH, or DLH. We did this on our last trip (both my kids have birthdays in the same month) and CM's wished them happy birthday the whole entire time we were at DL. And if you're dining at a table service restaurant, mention to the server that you're celebrating somebody's birthday and they might bring out something like a cupcake or ice cream with a candle on it. My kids loved that.

What about doing the Fantasmic Dessert instead of Ariel's? Would he be able to stay up that late? If he loves Jake, then he would probably love the Peter Pan/Captain Hook part of F! I know my boys love it. They're 5 & 6 years old.

Another thing my boys can't get enough of is Tom Sawyer island. They love to play and run around there. (Just be careful not to let him stick his hands in were the treasure is inside the caves-a scary voice comes on warning not to touch the treasure, scared my boys half to death!) It's a good place to let them get all their energy out! The swinging bridge and the bridge on the water are the favorites :goodvibes

Being in Disneyland will be really special as it is but everyone else is right to get a button. Everyone will be telling him Happy Birthday by name and the characters will make a big deal about it too. We celebrated my daughter's fourth birthday in the park too and she was amazed that everyone knew her name. ;)

If you are able to, I got the button the day before while she was riding a ride with her dad so we had it ready for her first thing the next morning. If not getting the button on main street may be just as exciting for him.

There are also lots of yummy desserts and treats that you could celebrate with too. Gibson Girl ice cream, or the bakery by Winnie the Pooh and Hungry bear restaurant both have some great desserts. I am sure others could suggest more options too.

We will be celebrating my 8-year-olds birthday in March. I was sad to discover they have discontinued the birthday party at DL. My plan so far: I am having a custom birthday shirt made for him plus getting him a birthday button, doing a character meal (if I can ever decide which one) and noting his birthday on our other reservations. I think I have decided against a cake...we ordered two different cakes for his brothers in different years, one to Goofy's and another to our room at GCH, both were terribly underwhelming. I think we will just do cupcakes and/or a kitchen sink at PCH Grill instead.
