Hi!

We are going to WDW with my parents at the end of April. We are travelling from England and my Dad keeps saying 'When we go to America I am going have pastrami on rye' He says it in a terrible American accent!

Please can someone tell me where I can take my Dad to get the best pastrami on rye, we dont have such a thing here so I have no idea where would be a good place to find it.

Stupid question huh?

The closest thing I have found is a Reuben sandwich at the Plaza Restaurant inthe MK.

Reuben Sandwich - corned beef, Swiss cheese, sauerkraut and Thousand Island dressing grilled on marble rye bread, served with fries $10.39

I'm not sure if the Earl of Sandwich is open at DD yet. They might offer pastrami. Other than that, your Dad may have to find a deli off-site.

I'm hoping you will have your own transport.

From Downtown Disney take Hotel Plaza Blvd to the intersection of Crossroad's Plaza where you will take a left on to 535 and the very next right on to Palm Parkway. Follow Palm Parkway, it will turn into Turkey Lake Rd until the intersection of Sand Lake and Turkey Lake. Take a left on Sand Lake and follow the road until it intersects with Dr. Phillips Blvd. Take a right on Dr. Phillips Blvd. There will be a shopping area on your left. Turn in there and go to TooJay's. They have the absolute best (and huge) Pastrami on Rye in the Disney area.

It's not such a very far way. If you don't have transport and your Dad must try this, you could take a taxi cab.

I must agree that Toojay's is a spectacular example of American Deli cuisine. The Reuben, Pastrami, and Brisket sandwiches, as well as their fresh salad and dinner platters, are to die for. If you're not into driving that far, or if you have to take a taxi, Market St. Cafe in Celebration has a much better Reuben than Plaza at a lower price, and it's closer (= less expensive in a taxi) than Toojay's. If you end up going to the Market St. Cafe, be sure to pop into Sherlock's (just down the street) for tea and dessert.

Disney really needs a deli-style restaurant. I LOVE pastrami on rye, with a nice sour pickle and a knish on the side!

Yes, they do need a deli. When I started scanning menus I noticed a major lack of good deli selections. You can't seem to even get a sub sandwich anywhere on-site. What's up with that? I had never thought of it before since I always have a car and often eat things I can't normally get when at WDW.

I'll make a note of Too Jay's and try it out next time I'm "home".

A question for you local folk....is there an advantage to going north on Palm instead of staying on Apopka-Vineland?? Thanks!

Palm Parkway becomes Turkey Lake Rd, which intersects Sand Lake Road.

It might be more direct if you take Palm Parkway instead of Apopka-Vineland, but that's just my opinion.

Be sure to give us a review!!

Flower, it isn't as direct to take Palm Parkway. That's why I asked about it. I know that there has been some construction on Apopka-Vineland but overall it doesn't seem like a bad drive...not too many lights, etc.. I've not taken Palm Parkway ever though. And I know locals can address traffic issues, etc.

Thanks for posting the link. Very appetizing!

We've found that even though it's not as direct....... it has less traffic.

My DH is a 'let's avoid all traffic' kind of guy- so we take Palm to Turkey Lake to Sand Lake. He has a favorite 'foo foo coffee' place on Sand Lake that he LOVES (they do lots of sugar free flavors), and we can get there from our hotel in about 20 minutes or so.

It was just a suggestion though........
