past experience with kids not liking same rides?

Hi all, I am a single mom with boys ages 9 and 6. We love Disneyland but my kids are extremely divided when it comes to which rides they will both go on. The older one is all about the thrill rides and the younger one hates them. We did pretty much force the younger one on GRR last fall and he ended up LOVING it (yes I know there are lots of folks who disagree with doing that) and I convinced him to go on BTMRR but he is too scared to go on Splash (which I think he will love if he would just go on it). Because I don't have any other adult to go with us, I am struggling with whether to try to take them by myself. I, personally, can stand to not do the faster coasters but I already know my older son will not be happy with that and even though I CAN send him alone I won't.

Has anyone run into a similar situation and if so, how did you handle it?

Only the older one could go by himself, and he's not old enough to chaperone the younger, even if you were OK with them going by themselves. If your the older one wants to ride something more thrilling AND the younger one meets the height requirements, AND if you could handle just letting the older one ride the ride alone, you could all go through the line and just take the exit with the younger one while the older goes on.

Since you're talking about Disneyland, I'll let you know that I'm happy to do that with my son on a ride like Radiator Springs, but NOT on Screamin'. (we take the single rider line for RSR b/c we're willing to split up and let him ride without one of us next to him)

If you're going any time soon, I believe Big Thunder is closed for quite awhile. Might want to check the refurb schedule if that's slated for this trip.

So...that's how I would handle it...except for the biggest rides, I'd let him go alone. Splash would be totally fine with me. Screamin' though. And maybe not Sky School, though HE would LOVE it. (I dislike that ride with a passion) It's a "what would happen in a ride stop and evacuation situation" thing for me...that's a high stakes situation to trust your 9 year old to listen and do what the CMs are telling him to do....
