past CPers...hurriances

I did FA 2008 and it really wasn't a big deal. I remember there being a ton of rain and we still had to go to work. At my work location we were automatically on the "ride out crew" which meant if a storm were to hit, we had to go to work and stay there until it passed. We would have work 12 hours on, 12 hours off but not allowed to leave the location. The guests were kind of annoying at that time because they knew the bad weather was coming and they kept asking for free stuff  I worked in a resort, which definitely would not have closed for a hurricane (they'd be working overtime!), and I'm sure those working in the parks would have a different experience.

No, this is such a good question. My mom (of course) was worried about this and I was a bit. I actually asked my interviewer about the hurrican situation. She said that because Orlando is located in central Florida it usually isn't hit as hard and people that live in Florida actually go to Orlando to be safe from the hurricanes. Also, she (my interviewer) said that Disney rarely if ever closes the parks due to inclement weather. I hope this helps.

Yeah they run out all of their other options before they close a park.

I have never had to deal with a Hurricane, and it's really rare for tornados to hit Utah, though one did years and years ago in Salt Lake, that was really a crazy story(and christiemarsh88 be careful what you wish for, cuz just before the slc tornado, i had said it would be cool to have one...yeah.) the biggest thing though that we deal with here in utah is snowstorms, and those can be pretty scary!

Wow snowstorm does sound scary, I've only seen snow twice down here and I dont think you could really call it snow.

Wow. It just snowed about 3 inches here in Rexburg, Idaho yesterday. It's suppose to snow tomorrow and Wednesday and won't get above 40 degrees until Thursday. Hence why I simply cannot WAIT until Florida. Oh my wow.:cool2:

I'm just a desert rat so I've never experienced any hurricanes, tornadoes, and whatnot.

So say a big hurricane is coming and you go to work outside. Do you wear some sort of plastic hood thing? Or do you just get drenched?

Wow thats cold its like burning up here i think the lowest it gets arounnd this time is 60 it annoys me because the bugs come out and its hot lol but its different in Florida because of how close the water is. Its really humid when its hot where I live lol

You will be able to obtain Rain Gear from Costuming. For most Costumes (yes, the Rain Gear you get differs based on your Costume), it's a two piece clear polyester raincoat/pants combo that you wear over your normal costume pieces. Some roles (especially Custodial and Parking Lot Cast Members who need to be very visible) may receive yellow rain gear.

During a rain/hurricane situation, issuance of Rain Gear will be prioritised to those Cast Members whose roles require them to work outdoors.

The thing about them is that they rip and come apart very easily, especially the pants if you bend over to pick stuff up. I have NEVER gotten through a rain shift without absolutely ripping apart the pants, and I've had a few situations where the coat has started coming apart as well.

Thanks. If they're easy to come undone, how are these pants sealed? Is it like a velcro thing along the sides or what?

No clue, I've never really paid attention. Though they're not velcro or anything like that.

Basically, imagine a normal pair of pants, preferably the stretch kind. Now imagine those same pants made out of clear polyester. Those are the Rain Gear pants.

I see. So when they rip, are they actually broken and do you have to pay for them?

Yes, they actually do break/rip/fall apart. I just stow mine in a locker and turn them in after the shift is over.

WDW Costuming might differ, but DLR Costuming generally doesn't charge for them. They're meant to be disposable, and get recycled after being used.

So what are the odds that a Hurricane will totally destroy my car in the Vista Way parking lot?
