Does anyone know if a drinking and driving conviction will prevent you from getting a passport?

Dont think it stops you less mabey if u have had a few and done jail time but I know people who have it on thier record and have no problems getting or using thier passport

It won't stop you getting a passport, but depending on the type of conviction it could stop your entry into another country.

So you could have the passport and still not get into the US? I guess I thought the passport guarenteed entry.

A passport doesn't guarantee entry regardless if you have a record or not. It's up to the person you speak to, if they will grant you entry. Of course, it should be something valid but you never now.

A passport is only a document indicating citizenship -- it doesn't guarantee anyone anything. A country has the right to deny anyone entry regardless of travel documents provided.
