We are in need of getting passports, so plan to get everything together this week, so DH can take them all into the passport office at the end of next week, early the following.
SO....what's up with the signature part now....is it true that it only needs to be signed by a current passport holder who has known you for more than 2 years? and that it could even be a member of your own family?:confused3

Also, what kind of wait times have people who've got them recently been experiencing? Thanks.

Not sure on the signature but my sister and I signed for our sons --three weeks ago and it was accepted --both of us hold valid passports.

Our time frame from applying to receiving the passports was 2 weeks.

We applied in Mississauga Ontario.

Passport Canada has a great web site which we used to pre-print and fill-out our applications--made things go alot faster.

Hope this helps
Hugs Mel

I went and did our passports the last week in Jan/08. I was in and out in 35 min (was doing mine/dh/ds/dd) I did myself and DH apps online and printed them out for the guarantor to fill in and sign. Doing the applications online will make a HUGE difference once you're at the passport office. It's like a fastpass so to say:goodvibes My sister was our guarantor, the guarantor has to be somebody with a valid passport number. I had to print off and fill in the kids applications by hand because they were under 16, but since my application was done online I could still use the online application line at the passport office for all of us.
Hope this helps/and made sense.

Not sure what you're asking. I asssume you are talking about the Guarantor who has to fill out a portion of the passport and sign your photo? That person has to have known you for 2 years -- it's always been that way.

If, however, you have an existing passport that was issued after 2003, there are new renewal policies. If the passport hasn't yet expired, there is a shortened form where you only supply references - no guarantor needed and no signatures on the photos. More info is on that website.

Like the other posters, my passport application was submitted in person and the passports were couriered to my house in exactly 2 weeks time.

Do it online and then bring it into the office. It is so much faster in the office. I did this the last week of december and courriered it two weeks later.

My mom was my guarantor and it was fine. She has a valid passport and has known me for more than 2 yrs, of course!
I applied for mine through a receiving agent a month ago and got mine yesterday, I was quite impressed as the processing time itself was suppossed to be 5 weeks! :thumbsup2

Yeah, I did.
My DH was not thrilled that I printed off tons of paper from the computer and had our lovely barcode at the top of the page, did all four of us...
So we go to Hamilton and there is oooooo, 150 people already there. The man at the front asks if we have paperwork already filled out, I show him and he punches in our code and tells us to sit down and watch for our number. I was in the squat position over the chair when I heard 'ding'..was OUR number!!!! The lady behind us just about went beserk!! She had been waiting since the place opened up...four hours before. She was yelling and everything!! ILMAO

My advice..PRINT OFF YOUR FORMS BEFORE GOING!!!

We were in the place less than 20 minutes.

I agree with PP's that you should print out the forms before...it was so much quicker for the people who had done that....we weren't one of them....LOL

We did ours, DW,DD(3) and myself by mailing them in and received our passports in 3 weeks and 2 days. I was astonished at how quickly they were returned to us and we never had to leave home. My BIL, a passport holder signed for all three of us. hope that helps.
