Passports to enter USA

Here's the math on an adult passport:
$85, good for 5 years.

That's $17 a year. $1.41 a month. That's less than a cup of coffee at most places.

I think they're very worthwhile, especially at that price.

But that silly government doesn't let me pay on the "monthly plan"! :rotfl2:

Yes, I agree they are important, and I did get them last fall. But it hurts to shell out that kind of $$$ all at once, and really annoys me that no one wants to look at the ones I got for my kids.

I think I need a Disney Cruise to REALLY justify these passports! :rotfl: Come on Super 7 !!!

This question is for any Canadians currently living in the US with a green card:

I'm just wondering anyone's thoughts on a green card substitiuting for the passport. If I'm traveling from Canada into the US, what good is my Canadian passport to the boarder patrol if I live in the US?? I checked the State Department web site and it mentions that "other documents" will be accepted, but doesn't mention a green card. It just doesn't make sense to me to require a passport for resident aliens.

Opps. . .I just found my answer at the US Customs

They have link to a document that details all of the "other documents"

Basically, it says that a Lawful Permanent Resident Cards aka "Green Card" is valid. Yeah!! Now, I just need to get US passports for my 3 kids. . .

Do just adults need the passports or do I need to buy them for my 4 kids too.. Ouch $$$
fyi.. I printed up the adult forms and it is $87 now.. wonder if the they will raise the price since they are needed more now.. hmmmm...

I *think* the "other documents" they're referring to is the new US federal travel ID Card that they're currently working on. It will require anyone applying for one to undergo background checks, and will be designed so that it can be "swiped" at the port of entry for immediate access to information on the individual stored in the homeland security database.

No word yet on when that's actually going to be implemented though.

RC as was stated by others on here DCL taking the passports is nothing new as all the cruise ships I know if do the same. I have heard of people getting around giving them up but I am not exactly sure how they do this. Mind you I would rather DCL hold it for me one less thing I have to worry about losing if I happen to partake in a few beverages while on one of the islands LOL. Mousy yes the kids will also need them as was stated at the passport office. The lady was suprised we had the kids stuff done as she said most parents fdon't want to do them mostly because the old ones for the kids expired every 3 years. Now under 3 they only last 3 years 3 and up are good for 5 years.
