So according to the passport office they are recieving 21000 applications a day right now and can't eep up with the demand even with adding extra staff. The updated timeframe to actually recieve your passport is now up to 60-90 days according to the report. This was on the news this morning on 102.3 bob FM in London.

Well, I guess that depends on where you go because I just finished posting on another thread about my trip to Ottawa's Passport office this morning & they assured me my passports (mine & kids) would be arriving prior to March 7....less than one month. I do think the bigger issue is if you mail them in....that process seems to take MUCH longer!

This is the official word from the passport site:

"Passport Canada is experiencing a sharp volume increase in passport applications in all of its offices, by mail and through its receiving agents. Please note that we are also experiencing, up to 25 business days delays, in addition to our service standards when delivering your new passport. "

Thjat is exactly it they are recieving 20 plus thousand a day in teh mail and can't keep up with the influx of mail ins thus if you mail it in you are looking at a 60 - 90 daty wait.

I called Passport Canada tonight and the lady said the I should have them in
March. She said in the very extreme it would be the very the end of March, we took ours to a service center in Newfoundland Jan 26. That would put it around 45 days.

Here in Fredericton the Passport Canada office was VERY light today..

In fact the waiting time was MUCH shorter than it had been every day last week.

Weird.

Took my family of four's applications to the Harry Hayes Passport office in Calgary on Jan. 15th. I was in line at 10:00 am and finished up by 11:45 am. I was told I would have the passports back by the middle to end of February. Received them Feb. 2. Issue date on passports was Jan. 29th. We had our flight day of March 27 listed on the applications.

My sister took her application in yesterday in Scarborough. She waited only 40 minutes and was given a pick up date of Feb 22 which is 7 business days.

It pays to take it to the office rather than mailing it in.

Applied for my grandaughters Jan 4 and received it today, applied through my MP's office very helpful, quick and free

I went to the passport office a couple days ago (Feb. 13th).

There were SO many people!! BUT....The lady at the desk told me it would be sent my march 6th...Which works out to about 20 days...Who knows if that's actually the truth though...but if they knew it would be backed up I think she would have told me. So im counting on getting it within 20 days!

My husband went into the passport office on the 12th of Feb. He paid $30 express fee, and received it Feb 19th -- exactly one week. Remember that "express" is an option for those who are planning trips in the upcoming 1-2 months and don't want to gamble.

DO NOT MAIL IT IN!!!!!

I am stunned that people who applied this month are already receiving their passports.

I sent 3 applications in by courier (DUMB, DUMB, DUMB) and they arrived on December 11th.
I have still not received any!!!!!!!!!

That is now 2 months, and 4 days. Or 47 business days.

To make things even more annoying, my visa was charged on January 31st for all 3. How is it taking so long after they obviously started processing them, when people can get theirs when they apply after the date I was charged?????

DO NOT MAIL THEM IN!!!!

I have to agree with the above poster...My dad waited about 1.5 months to receive his after he MAILED it in...

I went in person and the lady said it wont be more than 20 days...

But the QUICKEST way is to do it ONLINE and then go in person. (or at least it means you won't have to wait in the passport office as long)

Sometimes it isn't possible to go to a Passport Office. We would have to travel 5 hours to the closest office! It doesn't matter to me since we already have passports but I did want to mention that it isn't always an option to take it in person. Many locations are quite far from the nearest office.

We drove down to Richmond (from Kelowna -- about 4.5hrs ea. way) last Sunday and camped out at the office at 6am. Office opened up at 8:30 and we were #40. Managed to get through the processing by 10:30. They said the passports would be sent out registered mail on March 12th. So exactly a month before we'll need them.

I'm glad we decided to take the road-trip and hand delivery them, there's no way we would have them back in time.

Here's hoping all of you waiting for your passport will get them back in time!

Anyone know what the lines are like in Edmonton right now?

I lined up at 340am 4 weeks ago and there were already over 100 people in-line ahead of me. We did recieve our passports this week even though they told me we would not be getting them till the 28th? Anyone who showed up after 630am were told there were already too many people in line to process that day.

Oh boy....

If I can give anyone a word of advice, it's this: Do NOT mail them in unless you really don't need them in 6 months or so. And.... Do NOT mail them in without having someone look them over.

I made the big mistake of mailing them in. I thought I had done everything right. Wrong.....

They were all (5) mailed on Dec 12. 3 of them have been returned. One because I forgot to check that I hadn't seeked any other citizenship prior to Feb 1977. One because the birth certificate is laminated (I hadn't read that it became invalid if laminated. My fault) and the last one returned because I needed the long form birth certificate for one of my son's instead of the card. I didn't know that if your child was born before you were married, you need to send the long form because it has proof of parentage. The card shows nothing...

Anyways... I've learned my question.

We are driving to the passport office on thursday and I will resubmit my boys info. I ordered their new birth certificates last monday and received them on wednesday (not bad....).

I've no idea what's happening to the other 2 passports. I kind of wish they'd return everything so I can do all our passports at the same time.

Good luck to everyone.

I cringe knowing that in 5 years, all of us that are receiving our passports around this time will once again have to tackle this situation.

We had to do the long form BC for our oldest DD as she was born before we got married.
