Passport time

How did you know when they were issued? We applied for ours at the post office two weeks ago. I checked the status online and it says processing. I'll feel better when I have the kids birth certificates back!!
The issue date is on the passport. Don't know about whether it actually said "issued" on the online place you can check the progress.

Just checked my passport expiration date, glad to see it expires 2 months AFTER our cruise, whew!

Ten years, how time flies.....

Three of ours say on the status that they're in the final stages and we will get them by 4/01/17....mine is still in process. Must be the name change - the other three are new passports and mines a renewal + name change. Hopefully we get them back soon!

We renewed our kid's passports today. It was a 2 hour wait. Make sure you take things to entertain kids with during the wait. It was standing room only.

I felt terrible for the young girl and her parents behind us. Apparently, her parents were not English speaking and she was planning to translate. This was not allowed. They were told to come back on another day with someone who is over 18, has known them for two years and who can translate. It was a long wait to find that out.

Our city accepts passport applications at City Hall. When we got our first ones, as well as when our kids got theirs, we just walked right in and were processed immediately. Took maybe 5 minutes.

We just renewed for our kids, in our area, appointments were all booked three months out, so we went to a walk in facility, got there at 4:30 am and the line filled up with the maximum by 5:30. Waited until 8:45 for the post office to open, but we were first in line and out of there by 9:00 am. They turned about 50 people away, many of whom had waited two or three hours. We paid for expedited and they arrived in two weeks. Also make sure you have the father there or the notarized form, they will not process without it.

That's absolutely bizarre. What was there to translate? Honestly I probably would have gotten involved at that point, at least to help them find another location to get their passports done.

...if my son went with my MIL to help her with something, as she continues to lose both English and Korean and sometimes needs translation of "stranger's English" to "family's English", and they were sent away because he's a minor, I would have lost it... She's lived here for 47 years, was not *allowed* to become fluent, and even before the dementia started setting in had a hard time communicating, and often needs help in public.

Be careful a number of countries will not accept a passport that expires within 6 months. If your cruise is in the Caribbean, you might be ok. I don't know the rules for that. But if your cruise is a European one, you will want to get your passport renewed before the cruise.

Thank you I didn't mention a father because it's just the two of us traveling but thanks!

I understand that he isn't traveling with you. I just wanted to make sure you understand that you will probably need his help to get a passport for your daughter, even if he isn't traveling with you. Have a great trip!

One thing to keep in mind is that there are several states that issue driver's licenses that are not compliant with Homeland Security's real-ID requirements. As of January 18, 2018, you will not be able to fly using a driver's license from a non-compliant state, without an alternative ID, such as a military ID or a passport. The passport lines in our local post office have been extremely long for weeks now because of this. More information is on the Homeland Security web site.

What states are non-compliant?

According to the Homeland Security web-site, there are nine. Washington State is one of them. There are several more states that have extensions till 2020. You can go to the web site to see the complete list.

Our adult DD sent hers away for renewal (done at the Post Office) on March 7th. Tomorrow will be 3 weeks and still waiting.

I renewed mine in January and had it back in under 2 weeks. The other day we walked passed the Post Office that is in our local mall and it was PACKED! Had to be at least 30 people in there all at tables filling out their passport forms.

When my DD went to our local Post Office she was the only one there for passport. So strange how some are packed and some are not.

Oh no problem but it really is just us. Artificial insemination but truly do appreciate you for letting me know. :-)

We applied for our DD's first passport on March 2nd. We just got her passport in the mail today (3.5 weeks later). We paid for regular processing.

DH sent his in for renewal I think about March 16th. Still waiting on his.

When I went to book an appointment for DD's passport, we struggled to find an available appointment that wasn't cutting it too close. Our cruise is in May. There were some locations where we couldn't get an appointment until the end of April or beginning of May. And there was only one place that accepted walk-ins, and only on weekdays, and only the first 30 people... so taking time of work seemed like a risk. I kept checking back, and one of the local places must have had a couple of cancellations, because I was able to snag an appointment with a couple days notice.

We got 3 of ours back last night in the mail. We applied at the post office on 3/11, issue date on the passports is 3/22 and we got them in the mail 3/27. They were sent through Philadelphia. I haven't gotten the passport cards or the birth certificates back yet, just the passport books.

Mine did not come with the other three. Mine is a renewal with a name change, the others were new passports! Status says mine is processing....

I'm curious for your reasons for getting both passport books and cards? We did this for our girls last time around (5 years ago) and haven't ever used the cards, just the books (for both closed-loop cruises from PC and for air travel to Canada for an Alaska cruise). We could have used the cards, but since my wife and I have books, we brought those and figured might as well bring all 4 books.
On the next renewal (next month) we'll just get the DDs new books.

We live close to Canada and we can use the cards for the kids to go over the border. I suppose we could just take the passports but we could end up there unplanned so I want to carry the passport cards and keep the books at home (or in a safe while traveling).

We did our daughters in January. Did take about six weeks to get it, but we didn't need an appointment and were able to swap out with the next person in line to correct the application. (Apparently checking it three times wasn't enough!)

Reading all this, we got lucky!
