We travelled to the U.S. a couple of weeks ago and sitting at the gate in Toronto waiting for our flight to New York I discovered that the customs officer had stamped our boarding passes, and not our passports. I panicked a little and then looked around and tried to see other people's boarding passes. I saw that their boarding passes were also stamped.

Is this new? We've travelled lots and when we went to Europe last Fall we had our passports stamped in many countries.

Has anyone heard about this or noticed it lately? Is it something new?

I find every time I go somewhere, something changes. I remember my trip to Paris in 2008, I didn't even get a stamp in my passport "because you are canadian" was the reason given. I also didn't get a stamp when I went to Vegas the most recent time but did the previous trips. I've had my passport stamped, my boarding pass stamped, both stamped and neither stamped on various US trips. It may have to do with their no visa required agreement possibly.

i travel to the states alot. but i have only got my passport stamped if i travel out side of the USA. i have never got a stamp for entering the US.

A Visa is not required for a Canadian entering the US, a passport is needed, but it will not be stamped ( the visa is the page in the passport they stamp).

Think of the people that live near the border, dashing down for gas or groceries or weekend jaunts. They would need a new passport 3 times a year with all those stamps.

(Mexico does not require visa's either, nor do several of the carribean countires)

Are you sure??? I don't know anyone that has ever had their canadian passport stamped when entering the US for a vacation.

That would be me. I cross 4-5x per week. I would have quite the book of stamps!

US Customs has stamped my passport twice. Both times were in Edmonton in 2008/2009.:)

ya that would be us we go down at least 1 every two weeks for groceries,

Thanks all. This is very interesting. The reason I was concerned is that we have been going to Florida annually since 2008 and have always had our passport stamped.

Maybe the official site would have some info on it. I'll check it out.

Same here, flying out of Edmonton into the US several times and everytime had the passport stamped! The last trip being last August.

In the last 4 years, I have travelled to Jamaica, Barbados, St Lucia, Mexico, Los Angeles, Las Vegas and Puerto Rico and the only place where I have got my passport stamped was Jamaica. My old passport from 10 years ago, they stamped it almost everywhere.

I like having the stamps as mementos so I always ask them to stamp it. I forgot this past trip and wish I had the stamps in my daughter's passport. It's fun to see the plane, car or train stamp with the dates.

We've been to WDW 5 times, always flying through Toronto, and have had our passport stamped twice. Seems to be hit & miss for us.

They only seem to stamp a passport when you don't have one that is current within 6 months of your current visit or you don't have one yet. As a example when I went to WDW in funerary of 2006 I got it stamped by customs at Toronto, however when I returned later in august they didn't stamp it, but it was stamped by customs on the Wonder back when you had to get up early and retrieve your passport from them and go through US customs on the ship if you weren't a US citizen.
