Passport RENEWAL questions-HELP!

I'm a little confused. The exception is still noted on the forms:

PARENTAGE LINK BETWEEN THE CHILD AND THE PARENT(S)You must provide one of the following acceptable proof of parentage documents demonstrating the relationship between the child and the parent(s):
a detailed birth certificate from Canada or a foreign country where the child was born, indicating the name of the parent(s); or
an order of adoption indicating the name of the adopting parent(s).
Note: A divorce order, court order or judgment or separation agreement attributing parental responsibilities constitutes a complement and not a substitute to a child’s birth certificate or an adoption order.
Exception: An application submitted on behalf of a child will be accepted without proof of parentage only if all of the following criteria are met:
A Canadian travel document was previously issued to the child in his or her name;
The previously issued travel document is still valid or expired for less than one year; and
The previously issued travel document accompanies the new application
.

Does this not imply that a child with an existing passport does not require the long form BC?

That sure does!

This info totally used to be on the passport website but now I can't seem to find it. But if the form you are using says that and it's not expired (which I don't think they can) then you should be ok.

I just know that now it says to avoid delays to have the long form birth certificate with both parents names.

ADDED, heck....this is also saying if you are an adult doing a GENERAL application "not a renewal" then you will also be required to have this long form birth certificate!

This makes me ill. What a cash grab. :headache:

Just FYI and this was direct from the person at the counter entering in my passport info at the passport office, only children require the long form and it is to identify the parents as the parents.

We snuck in under the wire with the little one as well, but she had said if we did not marry before the child was born we would need the long form.

Goodluck in renewing, I have found the best info is going to the passport office anything that is wrong they will catch in prescreening. We have been fortunate as the person that was signing for us met us at the passport office as we are from out of town and Dh cousin lives in Edmonton, but u can sign for all of them since you have a valid passport

lol Well I'm doing my kids this summer. I'm taking the forms, the pictures, the darn long from birth certificates, my divorce certificate, my court papers that say I have sole custody, the travel letter that's been notorized. :laughing:

I will just put it all on the table and let them pick what they want.

I read the whole thing several times and it doesn't say anything about requiring a Long Form Birth Certificate. It only says that a Birth Certificate is required.

However, one of the links does lead to this note:
Birth certificate for children under 16 years of age
To avoid processing delays or the possible rejection of your application, we strongly recommend that you provide a birth certificate showing the name(s) of the child's parent(s)
.
But this has been on this website for a long time. It hasn't changed.

See the bit near the bottom of page 4 under Parentage Link Between The Child and the Parents.:)

Yes. And right under that is the section I copied above stating that there is the exception:
Exception: An application submitted on behalf of a child will be accepted without proof of parentage only if all of the following criteria are met:
A Canadian travel document was previously issued to the child in his or her name;
The previously issued travel document is still valid or expired for less than one year; and
The previously issued travel document accompanies the new application.

So essentially, as long as your child has a valid passport or less than a year expired, and you provide these with a regular birth certificate, they should accept it.

That sure does!

This is the current form and it's on page 4:
