I just received all our passports in the mail. Do I sign my childrens passports?? They are 7, 6 & 4.
If so, do I sign my name or theirs????

If there were no instructions with the passports I would call the local post office and ask them.

The post office here is where we get our passport applications, that why I would call them. If they can't answer it they would most likely give you an 800 number to call. I would hate to do it wrong and invalidate the passports.

I was instructed to sign the passport for my son. He is 7 now (6 when he received it). He then printed his name on the line next to my signature. If your 4 y.o. can't print yet, just leave blank next to your signature.

But you may want to call for your own sanity.

I signed my name.

Do you sign your child's name or your own name????

When we recieved our DS's he was only 4 weeks old! I was told to print his name, sign my name next to his printed name, and then write "by mother".
Funny thing about his passport, it is good until he turns 5 years old!! Needless to say he looks nothing like his passport photo (LOL!) Hopefully I won't have a problem using it for our cruise.

From the Passport websitehttp://travel.state.gov/passport/fri_faq.html#ca63

"My child is too young to sign his/her own passport. How do I sign my child's passport?

In the space provided for the signature, the mother or father must print the child's name and sign their own name. Then, in parenthesis by the parent's name, write the word (mother) or (father) so we know who signed for the child."

Thank you all so much!! I think I will let my 6 & 7 year olds sign their own and I'll sign for my four year old!!

So much for the info I got from my county clerk's office. They told me to sign my name as mother down one side of my DS's passport and have his father sign down the other side. She then said that my son could sign "if he wants to" on the signature line. He's 13...I think he's old enough to sign.

Thanks for the correct info!

I just called the US passport hotline with this same question. I was told to sign my daughter's name (not print like it says on the website) on the line and then underneath sign my own name and write "mother" in parentheses.

I'm sure that whether you sign or print the child's name it would be fine. Hope this helps!:Pinkbounc
