When coming into the US do we need to have the passport with the chip or can it be the machine readable type?
Mine is the older style and DH has to renew his so he'll get the new type and DS has the new one, am I going to need to change mine before we go?
Thanks :)

It can be either or. We just got back from a trip to Mexico and when re-entering the US, my mom and dad both have the older type and mine is new with the chip. They let us all back in ;)

Thanks StacyMarie, worried i'd be deported back home, with my family left to enjoy WDW without me LOL

About the only issue could be when you arrive back in Australia, the new chip ones can use the retina reader queue which is much shorter (in my experience) but you can all go through the old style queue together.

US entry tip is don't have any cuts on your fingers that require band-aids, band-aids and finger print scanners are not a good combination....

.

This is true, however, children aren't allowed in the chip passport express queue.

And all members of your party have to be eligible to use it. DH loves travelling o/s w/o me as I have a machine reader one and w/o me he can use the express lane!!
