If I buy a passport today, is it good for one year from today or one year from the first day of use? Thanks!

In that case, when you hand over the voucher at the turnstile and get a paper ticket which you will exchange for an AP at the ticket booth. Or if you take the voucher to the ticket booth and get the AP. Either of those would activate it.
