I know this has been asked many times before, but I could not find the posts....

So: How long has it taken people to get there passports when they went into the passport office to get it done? I think I am going to do mine on tuesday and I need it for the first weekend in April. Should I be OK? THanks!

I really believe you've waited too long.............I went throught the expedited process as mine had just expired and it took me 4 weeks..........if you are applying for a new passport, I can only imagine it would take at least 6 weeks....best to go down to the passport office ASAP with your completed forms and photos and they can give you a better idea

My Dh and I got renewal passports and the girls got new passports. We filled out all the applications at home (filled them on line and then printed the forms out) and brought them to the passport office. You have to go to 2 lines: the first line makes sure you have everything in order, the 2nd line is where the person inputs everything onto the computer (thus if you do it yourself at home and input the info online and send it via internet, it is A LOT faster!). They guy said the passports would be mailed out of the office in 2 weeks. We got our passports delivered to the house personally by Canada Post (registered mail) exactly 2 weeks, 2 days after we took them into the office. This was not expedited service, but normal service.

I am in Edmonton
we filled out the passports online (not printed out and filled it out but filled everything out online ) then they know its done right we then went and waited in the 3 hour line up just to get in the office and once in there waited about 15 iinutes but they tell you the day you will get it for us it was 21 days and we got them at about 19 days this was in Oct this was brand new passprots with no garentour (sp?) we had to get a lawyer to give us some oath and sign it for us. It was right before the rules changes that anyone with a passprt could sign for you

I just looked online and it is saying if you do it in person its 2 weeks as of march 5th

Are you talking about e-pass Canada?

ya you can long into e-pass and fill out the passprts forms online
then when you get to the office (once you get in the office) you get bumped to the front of the line sice they know online there are no mistakes.
It won't let you print if their are

I went to the local passport office here in London. We had the pictures and the forms all filled out and my son's passport arrived at our home about 2 weeks later. We did not have to use any sort of expedited process they told us that was the timeline for anyone who came to the office and submitted the application.

I'd get right on it but would say that you could get it in time. They will tell you the turnaround time at the office when you go.

Good luck!

Christine

I went and got mine done yesterday and I'm picking it up on the 20th. That was using the slower of the two expedition services. You apparently can get it done within 48 hours if you want to pay the fee.

Thanks! That is the office I will be going to on tuesday! Glad to hear that they are quick!

So for the Guarantor they have now changed the requirements right? The person no longer has to be a DR, Dentist, Nurse Etc? Just someone who meets the other requirements?

Also for those females that just did passport, and are married --did they ask for your marriage certificate as proof of name change? I am concerned about this because we never sent away for a marriage certificate????

I hope this is not a problem!

THanks everyone for all the feedback!

Lisa :thumbsup2

we never sent for out marriage certificate either and its been 19 years
but no they just had my birth certificate and then my drivers picture id and it as fine
it tells you how to fill it out on the form
now all you need is someone who has known you for 2 years and who holds a valid 5 year passport

You still have to wait in the line with everyone else. How you get the form doesn't matter.

You can pay an extra $10 to get it in 1 week instead of 2.

You can only get it in 48 hours if you need to travel for an urgent circumstance like a funeral but you have to present an airline ticket.

to get into the office then once you are in the office they give you a number depending on weather you did them online or not
it took us 3 hours in line to get into the office then only 5 minutes once we were in there but people who had hand written the forms were given another number and told it ld be up to 2 more hours and to take a seat
this was in oct in edmonton
not sure how its done in other offices

I was number 1 in line, had both the paper version as well as the online version done. I was in and out of the office in about 10 minutes total and only that much because the person helping me had a computer problem.

Hi,
We did our application on-line and went to Hamilton office. There were about 150 people there already, so I thought we would have to wait hours. We didn't even sit down and our number was up next!! Our post office came 2 weeks, 4 days after visiting the passport office. New passports, not renewals for the 4 of us.
The best part was watching all the other people who had been there for hours and were still waiting because they did not have their applications filled out. One lady even yelled because she had been waiting already 2 hours and we just got there!!! Total time in passport office...30 minutes, that's right, 30minutes. Of course they charge huge for the service, rediculous. Online will tell you how much per person-depends on everyone's age.
We went to Wal-Mart for the pictures and they guarantee them providing you keep your receipt. If the passport office rejects your photo, Wal-Mart will retake free of charge with receipt from originals.
Your guarantor needs to be someone you have known for 2 years and holds a valid passport, we used a friend my DH has known for 34 years and travels alot. They sign the back of the pictures, prestamped at Wal-Mart AND the form you print online. THIS IS IMPORTANT THEY DO BOTH!!
My advice..fill your forms out online, print, get your guarantor to fill out their part, sign the pictures, and take with you.
I brought our marriage certificate, but because my OHIP, driver's licence and SIN were in my married name, she said I did not have to bring it, I hope you have the same luck.
Don't have a computer/printer? Ask someone to borrow theirs. Don't use a public one, just gives me shivers thinking about it.
Best luck!!! :thumbsup2

I just mailed mine and my kids from the regular post office about a month ago. I got my and my one DD's abck less then 2 weeks later and the other two back a week after that. It was alot faster than I thought. I am glad I didn't go down to the office after all.

My wife picked up the forms at the post office 2 Adult and 1 child.
Pictures done at Costco.
BIL signed as guarantor.
We mailed them snail mail on Feb. 5th.
We received all three passports on Feb. 27th and 28th.

I was shocked that it was done that quickly and with very little leg work and no waiting in lines.

If y ou need them this soon, I would fill them out online so that the office already has your info in their system and you do not have to wait in line at the office. I was in and out within 10 mins as well. I believe doing them online is faster as well because someone starts verifying info as soon as it is received and your paperwork is added when you go in person to the office.

I received mine within 7 working days by doing this.

Good luck I hope you receive them in time.
