Just information for anyone planning a trip under the VWP, if your passport will expire soon! (like mine!)

" Does my British passport have to be valid for six months beyond my date of departure from the United States?

No, if your passport is not valid for at least six months beyond your date of departure from the United States, it will not affect your eligibility to travel. The United States has an agreement with the United Kingdom automatically extending the validity of a passport for six months past the passport's expiration date. Therefore, your passport need remain valid only for the duration of your stay in the United States.

If you are traveling visa free under the Visa Waiver Program and your passport is not valid for 90 days, you will be admitted into the United States until the date on which the passport expires. "

Thats an extra £50 for my spending budget!!!

As far as i know you need to have 6 months left on your passport for some airlines.It might be best to check with who ever your flying with.

I will second what Vicky said. Virgin certainly insist on 6 months left as do Airtours. DH' passport was due to expire in Feb 2007 and we called Airtours, who confirmed that they would not allow him to travel if he did not have 6 months or more left on his passport.

Virgin Atlantic match the advice from the US Embassy website. VA do not require 6 months beyond validity.

VH may advise 6 months, but they are not flying you.

Other airliness have differing requirements - the reason bsing that if they land somebody who is denied entry, they are fined and have to fly the person back out on the first available flight

Best to have the 6 month thing as most airlines insist on it even though the official US policy is as posted.

I flew with Virgin with only 3 months on my passport and it was no problem at all. Best to check with other airlines though.
