Do the cast members at resorts check id for the passholder or military discount at the resort? I'm not keen on bringing my dependent card with me on vacation but if I need to I will. We are using a passholder discount for AKL, does magic band suffice? We are then using military discount at yacht club; do they check id? My spouse (the military member) is not coming until around midnight for this reservation so he will not be with us at check-in.

When booking the military discount rate, they CM's tell me to bring my ID for proof of eligibility. So, I always bring my military ID when I book with the military discount. Do they ask to see my ID upon check in? Sometimes they do, sometimes they don't.

rgr that. Last time they didn't check my id or my spouses for our room nor my parents. If I can leave it home I'm more than happy to. Its not something I want to lose as the base is an hour from our house and getting an appointment for another is a pain in the butt if it were lost, stolen or misplaced.

I had the CM at checkin ask for my Id all three times I used the military room discount last year. Better safer to take it with you and lock it up in the room safe if you don't want to keep it on your person!

Better to take it and not need it than not take it and need it/lose the discount.

It's never certain either way, but they DO check - so bring it.

More often than not, they haven't checked for me (for AP or military rates). However, I have been "carded" for each discount at least twice (most recently last year for a military rate). I suppose if you're really worried about losing your ID, make a photocopy and bring that. Technically though, you should always have your ID on you for emergency healthcare purposes for tricare.

Off topic, you are the second person who has told me this about tricare in a week. I have never used tricare in my life, only the insurance through my company.

I was going to bring a copy of his id just to have anyways as he will be flying in to meet us late. I have "misplaced" my id twice switching purses thus my concern with taking it on vaca.

If you have private insurance, you're doing it all wrong if your spouse is active duty and you've never used TRICARE. You can submit claims with tricare as secondary insurance and they may pick up part of all of your co-pay/cost-share of your primary insurance (or they may not pay anything at all). It's mandatory that you submit all claims to the non-tricare insurance first though.

Copy should suffice for Disney. They've never photocopied my ID like other places (although photocopying my CAC isn't supposed to be done by anyone). I don't think they take it too serious and just want to see some proof you're entitled to the rate. Have you ever been to shades of green? If you have a car, it has a little exchange on property for groceries. You can also buy tickets and annual passes tax free there (you'd need your actual ID to get in). We get our FL annual passes here and save almost $100 from not paying tax.

If me I would bring with you. Just put it where you can lose it in your purse and when at resort put in safe. It never hurt to bring it with you. I have seen people who made a copy of the military ID & Disney refuse it...

We always bring ours. At the resorts it's 50/50 on being asked, but we've always had to have it to activate our military tickets.

Here's the info from Disney:

According to the link, you'll need your actual military ID. Maybe just put it in the same place you keep your drivers license, etc.

I would bring it but we have never been asked for either Id. My parents qualify for the military discount and always have it but never asked. The same with pass holder discount.

When I have gotten the AP discounts for resorts. They have never asked for it at c/i.

Just like the military ID situation mentioned by other posters, sometimes they ask for the AP at check-in and sometimes they don't. We've used the AP rate at several resort stays and on two of them they did ask for the AP at check-in.

For military ID cards, just bring it. If you have a medical emergency, the hospital will not accept a photocopy of your ID for proof of insurance.

Additionally, photocopying of military ID cards is prohibited under 18 U.S.C. § 701. As the sponsor, I have always been required to show my military ID upon check-in, as well as activation of our AFS tickets.

Just out of curiosity for those who have been asked for the id where were you staying? I ask because we have used the ap discount or military discount on about six trips in the last 13-14 months. We have stayed at poly cl, gf rpc and bwi cl and not ever been asked or had the topic mentioned.

I know they can ask and that one should have their id or ap on them for check in. We always have them and once even asked if they needed to see the military if and they said no. This was at the poly. I'm wondering if some resorts are more strict/diligent about checking id or something.

YC/CL and AKL/CL asked to see my ID. Disney has been very generous to the military with this offer. I am more than happy to bring my valid ID with me to show my eligibility. :thumbsup2

--And thanks to the poster upthread that added the information on photocopying military ID cards. I was pretty sure that was a legal no-no,
but I didn't have chapter and verse. :)

I was asked for my AP at the Poly back in 2010. I've been asked for my military ID at BWI, BWV, and one time at CSR since 2010. Rates for military are usually 5% better, so I've mainly used the military discount over AP for most trips. We've stayed on property numerous times across many resorts (POP, AS Sports, POR, BWI, BWV, BC, YC, Poly, CBR, CSR) and have only been asked to show proof we're entitled to our discount those 4 times. It's really just a matter of if the CM checking you in wants to see.

Thanks! I was just curious since we haven't been asked. We don't qualify for the military discount but my father is retired reserves so we get it when we go with my parents. They don't mind carrying the ids and we have our APs at disney of course for other discounts anyways.

I guess it's just case by case and probably depends on the cm. I thought it was strange how many times we have used the discounts and not been asked.

You'll need it. I always have anyway. Same with my AP when using that rate!

EDIT: I have been asked at Pop, WL, and AKL. I always have my ID on me though, so no big deal.
