Party of 8 hits the F&W 2013 Kiosks

It might be my sweet tooth talking, but I think every booth would benefit from offering a dessert :rolleyes1

That's so great! Thanks. I'm really glad to hear you are enjoying it! You must be counting down the hours now. So jealous we're back already. Have a great time!

Thanks! Yes we are!! Your review gets better and better:)

as before, great photos - enjoying your TR!

thanks again! I am really glad to have you along.

It might be my sweet tooth talking, but I think every booth would benefit from offering a dessert :rolleyes1

Great idea! Desserts seem to be taking a backseat against all that competition. There was one JQ really wanted on Day 3 and I regret not ordering it.
He's a big dessert fan too!!

Thanks! Yes we are!! Your review gets better and better:)

Aaahhh. what a great plan to go this week! The new GFV's, Halloween and the Food and Wine. This is when we have always gone in the past. I miss it already!!!!
Have a Great Celebration! Congrats on 14 years!

Quick update - I am still compiling what "the others" did and may be updating a few more wines per Maryann to previous entries. (just modified florida local)

should be back on track tonight!

Food and Wine Festival Visit
Day 2 – October 5, 2013

Continued……………………

“The Others” hit the Marketplaces

As I mentioned, our group split up on Day 2.
Everyone went in different directions.

4 of us picked right up where we left off – and completed booths 22 to 11
(working counter-clockwise from France.)

My parents visited the kiosks clockwise in an orderly fashion – booths 21 to 30
(bearing left toward England from the International Gateway.)

So let’s follow their route.

Unfortunately some photos are sketchy here – since only Cass had a camera and I did not
visit or photograph the first three booths.

Booth # 23 – IRELAND

Located between England and Canada.
(Here’s the only blurred shot Iron Man managed on Day 1)

Their Menu (courtesy of the disney website:

https://disneyworld.disney.go.com/events-tours/epcot/food-wine-marketplaces/

Jaunt over for favorite flavors o’ the Emerald Isle, including robust cheeses, honey wine and chilled Irish coffee.

To eat:

• Lobster and seafood fisherman’s pie - $6.25
• Kerrygold cheese selection: reserve cheddar, Dubliner with Irish Stout, Skellig - $3.75
• Warm chocolate pudding with Bailey’s® custard* - $3.50

To drink:

• Guinness® Draught - Starting at $3.50
• Bunratty Meade Honey Wine - $5.25
• Chilled Irish Coffee featuring Bunratty Potcheen* - $6.50

Lobster and Seafood Fisherman’s Pie $ 6.25

Unfortunately I don’t have any photos, but you can view them here (courtesy of the dis)

http://www.disboards.com/showpost.php?p=49674535&postcount=22

Both my parents and Cass tried this - with two entirely different responses:

My Parents describe it as “really good” and “exceptional”
Cass “did not care for it at all!!” She felt the taste had no seasoning to it.

On the other hand, Maryann dropped by for just 1 thing:

Warm Chocolate Pudding with Bailey’s Custard $ 3.50

and Loved it! She said this was her “favorite dessert!”

No Photo – So Sorry!

Booth # 24 – CANADA

their Menu (again, courtesy of the disney website:

https://disneyworld.disney.go.com/events-tours/epcot/food-wine-marketplaces/

Celebrate the “Great White North” with Yukon fare, including refreshing lagers and ice-cold sparkling wines.

To eat:

• Canadian cheddar cheese soup - $4.25
• Seared rainbow trout with bacon, frisee and maple Minus 8 Vinaigrette - $4.50
• “Le Cellier” wild mushroom beef filet mignon with truffle butter sauce* - $7.00

To drink:

• Moosehead Lager - Starting at $3.50
• La Face Neige Apple Ice Wine - $5.75
• La Face Neige Sparkling - $6.00
• Mission Hill Family Estate Syrah* - $5.25

Seared Rainbow Trout $ 4.50
with Bacon, Frisee, and Maple Minus 8 Vinaigrette

(photo courtesy of the disney website)

This is what my parents ordered. My mother described it as “very different.”
“A weird combination of flavors - but somehow it worked”. They enjoyed it.

Cass ordered: (and photographed)

”Le Cellier” Wild Mushroom Beef Filet Mignon
with Truffle Butter Sauce $ 7.00

which she also did not like. “very disappointed”. (0 for 2).
Cass loves the filet at Le Cellier.
We had just enjoyed a great dinner there the week before, and she was really looking forward to this.

As soon as she realized this was cooked medium – not well done – she couldn’t eat it.
(unfortunately, she didn’t take it back).

She did manage to cut off an outer portion to try, but that was “too tough to eat”.
So she threw it out.

I was really sorry to hear this. For a $7.00 item, it was a lot of money to spend.

Booth # 25 – GREECE

(menu courtesy of the Disney Website)
Experience old country flavors from a classic land, whether pulled from the sea or picked from trees on the hillside.

To eat:

• Taste of Greece: grilled and marinated calamari, hitipiti, eggplant dip, olives and pita bread* - $4.00
• Griddled Greek cheese with pistachios and honey - $3.50
• Chicken gyro with tzatziki Sauce - $3.75
• Spanakopita - $4.00
• Dannon Oikos® Blueberry Greek Nonfat Yogurt Cup - $4.00

To drink:

• Domaine Skouras Moscofilero* - $3.50
• Siglas Assyrtiko/Athiri - $3.50
• Alpha Estate Axia Syrah-Xinomavro - $4.25
• Ouzo by Metaxa - $3.50

Too bad JQ and I never made it around the world this trip.
We definitely would have ordered 1 of each here!

My parents were the only two who even stopped at this booth.
They ordered:

Taste of Greece - $ 4.00
Grilled and Marinated Calamari, Htipiti, Eggplant Dip, Olives & Pita Bread

They really liked Greece. They thought this was “very good.”

http://www.disboards.com/showpost.php?p=49716040&postcount=75

Spanakopita $ 4.00

“(again, photo courtesy of the dis)

http://www.disboards.com/showpost.php?p=49696922&postcount=54

“spinach and layered”. Also “very, very good”.

Booth # 26 – REFRESHMENT PORT

Cass and my Parents ordered:

Fried Shrimp $ 7.19
with Dole Pineapple Sweet & Sour Sauce and French Fries

What a portion!
They both said it was a good serving of fried shrimp and fries and they enjoyed it..

To drink

Frozen Dragon Berry Colada $ 7.75
featuring Bacardi Dragon Berry Rum

Marie and I tried in vain to get a Dragon Berry Colada.
but the machines weren’t freezing properly and they refunded our money.
We were told to check back in a ½ hr. but never did.

Cass and Maryann had better luck!

I wish I could vouch for the taste. Cass said it was “delicious”.
Like a “pina colada with dragon berry instead of coconut”

Maryann said it was very good, but not her favorite here.

Maryann’s Favorite Drink of the Festival:

Orange Dole Whip $ 5.79
with Crème de Cacao White

http://www.disboards.com/showpost.php?p=49697090&postcount=55

She told me she loved this! It was really, really good.

Ok so there are only 4 more to finish the count from 11-30.
These are the same 4 booths, JQ and I began with on our last day. .
So I will showcase them along with #’s 1 -10 on Day 3.

stay tuned.

2013 Food and Wine Festival

Day 3 / Week 3
Tuesday - October 8, 2013

This was our last visit to the Food and Wine and our last day at Disney.
Flight leaves tomorrow for home, which is depressing just typing the words!

I can’t even begin to describe how much we miss this trip.

Everything was winding down.
There were still 6 of us hanging around making last ditch efforts for whatever we could.

So JQ and I venture out by ourselves for one final round at the festival.

Festival Brochures for the new week.
Week 3 looked great as usual. (and advertising new merchandise!)

This time we parked in the General Lot and entered EPCOT thru the main gates!
Which meant we would be following the route most guests typically take.

Don’t you just love EPCOT!

“Haven't I seen you somewhere before?”

Our plan was to hit booths 30 to 27 then 1 to 10 - the majority of which
are heavily concentrated around the Port of Entry into World Showcase.

Pretty tall order for the day.
(as you can see by the list of them on this map!)

14 kiosks left. Let’s Get Started!!

Day 3 – Tuesday, Oct. 8

It was such a quiet and beautiful afternoon.

We skip the first booth as we round the corner and bear right at the Port of Entry.

Booth # 30 – CRAFT BEERS
(Iron Man said he would have tried the Leinenkugel’s Seasonal Shandy had he been with us)

Our next stop – the Highly Anticipated – ALL NEW

Booth # 29 – SCOTLAND

Love the design of this booth!!
(who knew I could capture JQ inspecting unusual foods and a trick umbrella shot at the same time!)

A Little History. Very Nice.

Seared Scottish Salmon $ 4.50
with Cauliflower Puree, Watercress & Malt Vinaigrette.

This was delicious!
The Salmon was cooked fresh and just excellent with the cauliflower and watercress.

Vegetarian Haggis $ 3.25
with Neeps & Tatties
(Griddled Vegetable Cake with Rutabaga & Mashed Potatoes)

We really wanted to try this to sample the Region.
James thought the potatoes and rutabaga were excellent and liked the bread.
I enjoyed this dish. The bread was a dense, well compacted whole grain cake
but I can’t recall if it had any distinct flavors.
(probably because we broke it up as we ate it with the sides.)

Booth # 28 – HAWAII

Food: (yes please!) 1 of each

Tuna Poke $ 4.00
with Seaweed Salad and Lotus Root Chips

We’re big sashimi fans so we really enjoyed this! The seaweed salad is very mildly seasoned and coated with an oil based marinade and sprinkled with sesame. You really taste the fish independent with it.
The Lotus Root Chip didn’t have much flavor to it but added just enough crunch to balance it out..

Kahlua Pork Slider $ 3.50
with Sweet and Sour Dole Pineapple Chutney and Spicy Mayonnaise

This is a great slider! Fresh pork topped with sweet and sour in every bite and a little spicy mayo! Really good.

Booth # 27 – DESSERTS & CHAMPAGNE
Another really beautiful booth!

One of Each?
(yes please!)

Between the group this booth was covered!

Dessert Trio $ 4.00
Chocolate Orange Cupcake
Hazelnut Chocolate Cheesecake
Morello Cherry Pistachio Mousse

Cass and JQ and I ordered (and photographed) this on separate occasions.
These are just delicious.

The pistachio isn’t strong. It’s the lightest of the three. The cherries at the bottom are delicious.
The chocolate hazelnut had a truffle like base with a cheesecake cream filling on top.
The chocolate orange cupcake was probably my least favorite, simply because
I’m not the biggest fan of this combo.
But the cupcake was moist and the icing was orange chiffon if I remember correctly.

This dessert always shows picture perfect.
Enjoy!

Side I

Side II

Guylian Belgian Chocolate Seashell Truffles $ 1.75

These are beautifully molded chocolate seahorses with a truffle filling.
They come in a pack of 2.

Cass tried these solo and said they were very good but forgot to take a photo.
(She couldn't remember if the chocolate filling was flavored)

If you do an online search there is a lot of information.
Here’s one photo to show what they look like.

Frozen S'mores $ 3.00

Think a "Wendy's Frosty" topped with graham cracker crumbs, chocolate chips and marshmallows.
(I don't think the ice cream was strictly chocolate – it had a unique flavor)
The graham cracker crumbs gave a few spoonfuls this "soft gritty" texture.
Personally, I would have preferred just a sprinkle of graham with less chips.
Loved the marshmallows!!!

And that's a wrap on booths 11 to 30.

That Kahlua pork slider looks awesome!

We have boxes of the guylian Belgian chocolates here, I would have figured you'd have them there too :confused3 They're not flavoured inside (although some of them have nuts inside) they've just got a softer chocolate inside, sort of like a ganache. They're yummy, but definitely not my chocolate of choice, and I must admit to having thrown the occasional box out after Christmas... :rolleyes1

Yes! That pork slider was excellent. There were a few of us enjoying it around the booth that day.

We love to hit the festival early for lunch. The crowds are low, which gives the staff an extra minute to prepare everything.

Thanks for sharing that story.

I have no idea if the Guylian Belgian chocolate is sold here in the States.
It probably is - but as a specialty.

It pains me to admit our country leans toward mass production when it comes to chocolate. Any brand from Europe would be considered high-end here. I'm jealous you have such a great market.

I can't believe the festival is almost over and so is my report.
Time goes by so quick at Disney.

There were a few more wines sampled in Morocco, Italy and Germany which I'll add at the end.

stay tuned.

2013 Food and Wine Festival
Day 3 / Week 3

Tuesday - October 8, 2013

Continued…………………

We are in the homestretch!

20 Down - 10 to Go!

We leave Desserts and Champagne (booth 27) and double back to hit booths 1 to 10 on the other side of the Port of Entry.

Booth # 1 – TERRA

Seen up ahead in the distance of this next photo.

We stood here for a good few minutes mulling over this menu.

Tough act to follow after feasting in Scotland and Hawaii on some fantastic dishes of salmon, pork, tuna, & haggis w/neeps and tatties.
Not to mention the desserts!

What’s this?
We are now being offered “Trick’n Chick’n” and “Beefless” Tips?
I ask JQ if he wants to try the chili with "beefless" substitute, and he’s shaking his head, “No.”

We considered the chocolate cake, but that’s not happening after all that great dessert we just had.

So we reluctantly skipped Terra and moved on.
Sorry. Maybe next time.

We decide to round up some food from the next group of booths and again find a seat here – at La Cantina de San Angel:
(the octagon shaped "gazebo" you see jutting out into the water)
What a great viewing spot!

Booth # 2 – BRAZIL

We actually visited Brazil on Day 2 and ordered 1 of each:

Crispy Pork Belly $ 5.25
with Black Beans, Onions, Avocado and Cilantro.

I had no idea what a Pork Belly was, and imagined cooked or steamed medallions of pork which we were planning to pass on.

Well, I was way off !!
This was delicious!

It’s pork with fat (like bacon and ribs) crispy fried and cooked to perfection.
Fresh and just excellent with the beans, avocado, tomato and cilantro.

I barely managed a bite of it before it was Gone!! Great choice.

Seared Scallop $ 4.25
with Ragout of Tomatoes, Peppers and Hearts of Palm

I’ve read mostly favorable reviews but personally, this was one of my least favorites.
It’s served cooled (or the scallop was just cold by the time it got to me), which was less desirable in texture and taste.
The ragout was just mixed and barely cooked at all.
The whole combination didn’t really blend. Seemed quickly thrown together.
Too bad.

Booth # 3 – ARGENTINA

Food:

Grilled Beef Skewer $ 5.25
with Chimichurri Sauce and Boniato Puree

For some reason, I never tried this one.
JQ said it was “tenderized, not chewy or tough and had a lot of flavor. It was good”.

Booth # 4 – AUSTRALIA

This should have been a “1 of each”, but our signals got crossed.
I tell JQ to just get the Lamb Chop and Shrimp.
Instead, he walks up and orders the Shrimp and Meringue.
So I stop him and proceed to correct the cashier, when it dawns on me he wants the dessert.
We go back and forth with me trying to add it again, and JQ insisting on backing away.
Next thing I know the cashier hands him the receipt for shrimp and lamb.

Too bad! It looked really good.

Garlic Shrimp $ 4.50
with Roasted Tomatoes, Lemon Myrtle and Rapini

This was very good!
I remember really enjoying it with the tomato and lemon.
We were pretty full at this point which made a difference.

Grilled Lamb Chop $ 6.00
with Mint Pesto and Potato Crunchies

Cass and JQ and I ordered this on separate occasions.
Cass, again couldn't enjoy hers because it was served medium.
Which again, was really too bad considering the price.

If you like lamb, these are just delicious.
They are seared fresh off the grill and a big hit at the festival.
The mint was mild and barely noticeable and the potato chips weren't really
necessary. More covered than coated.

We really enjoyed it. Australia has always been a favorite stop.

wow! we're almost finished.

next: day 3 wrap

Last Day / Last Visit

So where were we?

Today is Day 3 for us – a Tuesday afternoon – 2nd wk in Oct.

We started out with 14 kiosks remaining out of 30.

We’ve entered the main gates of EPCOT, walked thru Future World
and turned right at the Port of Entry - to hit booths 30-27.

We then doubled back to hit booths 1-10.

Here's a visual showing the majority of guests arriving thru the Port of Entry.
(Booth #1 is TERRA – on the right)

And Here’s the map one final time:
We are now en route from booths 1 - 10.

Booths 1 to 5 are heavily concentrated between the Port of Entry and Mexico.
As seen in this next photo which was taken on Day 2 - a Sat afternoon.
(Saturday is a good day to Avoid if possible)

We just left booth #4 – Australia (on the left) and are Moving On!

24 Down - 6 to Go!

Next Up - Booth # 5 – MEXICO.

We only sampled one item here.

Taco de Rib-Eye $ 5.50
with Salsa de Chipotle

I don’t know what happened but the salsa we were served was way too hot!
Normally we can tolerate some heat but something went wrong here.
Our serving was Inferno!!
I didn’t realize this wasn’t the norm until I read other reports which describe it as “mild”.
So either we had someone else’s custom order or there’s a special batch we accidently wound up with.

Unfortunately, this made it impossible to enjoy.
The lime did cut it slightly but it was crazy hot.

5 Booths Left to Go and we are hitting a Wall!!

It’s not looking good but we soldier on.

Adios Mexico!

Tequila!
I love how this guy is holding his commemorative beer stein while collecting a rainbow Margarita.
Great visual of how much this Festival rocks!!

Hello Norway!

Which doesn’t sponsor it's own booth – too bad!

So we take a break - ride Maelstrom - and hang out.
(25 min wait for tues afternoon!?!)

A Viking ship arrives!! Awesome.

“Dude, quit bombing my shot!”

That's more like it.

So no Norwegian indulgences to consume BUT we did peruse the gift shop and picked up these little gems!!

(I know, I know, they’re made in Vietnam. Priced $120.00 + tax = ouch!
minus 10% DVC discount)

but rumor has it we’re cruisin’ Alaska in 2015. (provided Disney is, of course)
which apparently put me in need of a little all weather traction!
So let’s hope they announce soon and we’re onboard!

See, this is what can happen when you dare to venture into a Disney gift shop in a great mood!
Bam!!! I'm out 120.00 bucks on the "ideal" of a cruise I'm not even booked on!!! How did that happen?

But I digress.

Time to resume this fantastic Festival and check which Country was lurking around Norway.

Such a beautiful booth!

Booth # 6 – SINGAPORE

We wanted to order one of each but were way beyond that point. Too bad!
And I wish I had ordered a Singapore Sling - or whatever was in that beverage dispenser.

Lemongrass Chicken Curry $ 3.75
with Coconut and Jasmine Rice

We loved this! It’s delicious!!
It has a perfect hint of curry - so good with the coconut and jasmine rice.
Singapore gets High Marks!! Excellent.

We really miss this Festival.

Good choice. It was delicious.
Making plans for next year is always a great idea. Wish we were!

Last Day / Last Visit

Continued……………………..

This Festival offers so much we really needed more time.
But with only 3 days dedicated to it, visiting the Marketplaces was all we were able to manage.

Hopefully, some day we'll hit the Special Events.
Party for the Senses has been on the "must do" list for years.

If anyone were to ask me "what's the one thing I love the most about the Food and Wine Festival?"
It's that there’s always next year!

Ok time to wrap this up.

26 Down - 4 to Go!

We are leaving Norway en route to China.

At this point we’ve hit a major wall!
14 kiosks was way too ambitious for 2 people to cover in 1 day.

So we decide to drop by the remaining 4 booths and decide on the spot if we’re up for trying anything.

First Stop - Booth # 7 – CHINA.

Normally we’d order one of each here. But we were pretty much done.
Unfortunately this was our last day and we had no time left to revisit.

But we had to pass. Too Bad.

We keep walking - and can see the next booth up ahead.

Booth # 8 – SOUTH KOREA

We were never really excited about this booth. We didn’t want the ‘dog” but were curious to try the lettuce wrap.

On any other day, we would have ordered one – but not at this point.
No way.
So we skipped this booth too. Sorry!

Time to cross the bridge toward Germany.

28 Down – 2 left to Go!

Who’s Next?

Booth # 9 – AFRICA

So decorative and so deserted. We felt bad for this little booth – out there all by itself looking for company.

One of Each? No thank you.

This should have been a yes. But we just couldn’t do it.
Too Bad!

That makes 3 in a row we skipped out of the last 4.

Which brings us to The Last Booth Standing

Booth # 10 – CHEESE

A Cheese Booth!?!? This is Great!
Who doesn't have room to sample a little cheese!
Even the French serve it at the end of the meal so we're good to go.

I of course, want to try 1 of each. JQ not so much. So we compromised.

I now present to you our last item of the festival -

Artisan Cheese Selection $ 4.75

Beecher’s Flagship Reserve served with Honey
La Bonne Vie Triple Crème Brie served with Apricot Jam
Wyngaard Goats Gouda with Craisin Bread

Excellent!! We were so glad we tried it!! What a great presentation, and great sample for two. Loved it!

Maryann also visited this booth and ordered:

Once Upon a Vine’s – The Last Slipper Sauvignon Blanc $ 2.50

No Photo – sorry!

Her review was that this was just “ok”. Nothing spectacular.
She told me she later noticed a bottle for sale at the POFQ and bought it to enjoy at the resort.
But it really was just average.

OK that’s a wrap!!

Except for one last thing.

We finished up at the Cheese booth, and realized we were back in Germany. So of course we had to make one final stop.

Just can’t seem to pass by this place – EVER!!

We picked up the “usual” to go.

And hitched a ride on our way back to Future World.

We quickly stop in here for a last minute festival impulse buy.
(yes they do sell select festival merchandise here!)

I love this pot holder! Use it all the time.

Priced $ 12.95 – less 10% DVC discount.
(of course with my luck I’ll see it marked down on clearance online in a few weeks!)

FYI - Festival merchandise has been known to show up at the Disney Outlet stores on clearance as well. (Too bad we don’t live in FL.)

And that officially concludes how our group spent 3 Days at EPCOT’s 2013 Food and Wine Festival!!

Thanks for reading along. Hope you enjoyed it.
I really appreciate having you all here.

Christine
