I am trying to figure out the policy on changing the number of people in our dining reservation. What if we wanted to go from 10 people to 8 people or even down to 6 people. Do we have to cancel the whole reservation and then rebook do we call and tell someone, or just show up?

For 1 or 2 people, I just go and don't bother calling. For more than that, I would call. They usually don't have to cancel and rebook for decreasing the number of people. But going from 10 to 6, would probably mean a different table.

If you know for certain you're party size is going to change, then I would call or check online to see if there is a ADR available for your new party size. However, I would not cancel the current reservation (for the wrong party size) until you have the new one in hand. As the PP said, as long as someone shows up, you won't be charged the no show fee for those in the party that do not show up. The only ones I'm not sure what happens is if people do not show up for the pre-paid meals (e.g., CRT, HDDR, etc.).

They handle larger groups differently than regular dining reservations, so going from 10 to 6 might make a huge difference in gratuities etc -- not sure though, since all ADRs have to be held with a CC so there may be other changes. If you were just going from 4 to 3, I'd say you could just tell them when you show up for your ADR. But under the circumstances, I think you need to get things more certain and then call them to notify them of the change.

Thanks for the info. I have made most of the ADRs but now my inlaws want to come to Disney as well and join us for some meals. Problem is they are INFAMOUS for cancelling/changing etc at the last minute. I am thinking about having them make ADRs for the 10 people at the same restaurants at about the same times we have them and keeping ours and then if they decide they don't want to do a restaurant they can cancel the 10 person reservation and we will still have ours. It's a mess too because the rest of the group is on the dining plan but they aren't on it...

When I initially made our reservation for CRT we had booked breakfast for 8 people. Recently, a few of our group decided to opt out of the Reservation. I called and spoke to a CM to enquire as to whether we had to cancel and rebook or if we could just modify our reservation. I explained to her that I was very concerned that we would end up in a situation where they accidentally cancelled instead of modifying it, and that we would no longer be able to secure a reservation for the date and time we wanted. I had recently read on the forum that others have had this happen to them. I would rather pay the no-show fee of 10.00 per person than risk losing our entire reservation. She assured me that we would not have to cancel and rebook and no changes would be made to the reservation UNLESS she first confirmed there was availability for the dates and times we requested for our adjusted (reduced)party size. It would be treated as a modification, not a cancellation. She put me on hold for a minute, then came back on to say that there was availability and she would process the request for me. She took the new info, confirmed availability once again, and advised me of the credit I would receive on my credit card. I ended up with the same reservation/ confirmation number and it took approx 3 business days for the credit to appear on my cc.

I am worried about this too.

We will go to WDW with my parents, my siblings and their families and will be 16 in total.

We like to be at the parks at RD and will try to get ADR inside the parks an hour before opening time, since this Works for us.

My siblings are both admant about not waking up early on vacation, and saying that they don´t want to feel stressed about getting somewhere.

My dad is paying for the trip (including dining plans), so I think it is only fair to at least share a meal with him every day.

But now I am getting worried that someone might be super late for an ADR or even no shows...

And I don´t know if I should make another set of reservations for 7 people (us and my parents) and just decide a couple of days before the trip about keeping the large ones or the smaller ones, with the risk that my parents might not show up and then there will only be the 5 of us show up at the restaurant...
