I am so confused. I was under the impression that in order for Disney to transport your luggage to the airport on your return trip you had to be using ME. On the TGM site someone posted that as long as you were on a participating airline you could check in, get your passes and drop off your luggage, no matter what mode of transportation you are taking to the airport. It just seems too good to be true. Can someone please clear this up for me? TIA!

From the official Disney's Magical Express FAQ:
Q. Do I have to use Disney's Magical Express Service to participate in the Resort Airline Check-In Service?

A. No. The Resort Airline Check-In Service is available to guests staying at select Walt Disney World® Resort hotels who are flying domestically on participating airlines departing from Orlando International Airport. You may take any transportation from your Resort hotel to Orlando International Airport.
Take a look at the rest of the FAQ too. It's full of useful information.

I went to the Participating Airline thread before I posted and I am still confused so that is why I posted the question. Thanks!

You are correct, if your airline offers resort check-in you can check-in at the hotel, get your boarding passes and check your luggage. This service is a seperate entity from ME all together. For example last year we flew Delta. We got our boarding passes at the hotel, checked our luggage and then drove our rental back to the airport. The other half of our group didn't have a rental so they took ME back to the airport.

Malificentsman- you just made my whole day! Thanks for the info!

we did this last Aug... when we were checking out, we went to the special desk for ME and they took our bags and gave us our boarding passes....We had a rental car so we drove ourselves to the airport...With no luggage !!!
