We're doing a mom & sons DW trip in August for 10 nights. My guys really want the DDP as we've had it in the past & they love going to all the different TS restaurants & trying new things. The problem is my boys are (will be by August) 10 & 12 so it means that I will have to pay for three adults....this is around $1200 for ten nights!! :scared1: I was really hoping to keep the cost of this trip down & I'm really struggling now with the thought of the cost of the food! (& of course, the tip!)

Is it possible to only do the DDP for part of the trip...maybe half of the trip? :confused3 Has anyone done this before? Does it work? I'm just thinking it would bring the cost down overall. It would mean that for the remaining days, we would just eat smaller meals yet still give the boys a few TS meals that they enjoy so much.

Thoughts?

Yes, you could make 2 reservations, one with the DDP, followed by a room only reservation.

Someone will correct me if I am wrong, but I am pretty sure you can add extra days to your park passes after you get there.

You don't want to book 2 packages, because it will probbaly cost you more money, not less. As days are added to a ticket package, the cost per day decreases. So two shorter packages are more expensive than one long one.

Have a great trip!

Yes, you can add extra days to park passes after arrival - but the OP wouldn't even need to do that.

While every Guest on a package reservation needs to have the same type/feature ticket, the ticket days do not have to match the reservation nights.

She can get ten-day passes as part of the package - these will expire fourteen days from first use - along with the DDP, which will expire at midnight of the day she checks out of the package room and into the 'room-only' reservation.

Thanks kaytieeldr. That is good to know :)

just be aware that is you do 2 seperate ressies, there is a chance you might have to change rooms (as in check-out at 11AM, check-in at 3PM).
you can ask at the FD not to move (upon initial check-in, & then again before your first check-out), but it is a very real possibility depending upon how booked the resort is.
personally, i would still do it that way, & just plan on a full "park day" for that date :thumbsup2

Do the math. If you really don't think you will eat the equivalent of $114 per day, don't get the plan as that's what it will cost for 3 adults.

Instead consider this: A disne card with a budegeted amount for each son for those snacks they could have on the plan. Then either dedicate another gift card for your meals and stick to the budget you set. I'd imagine you would still budget for some of those great TS meals.

With that plan you can still get them those great meals, stick your budget and let them have those snacks, but make them choose how to spend that $. Not a bad learning experience for them.

We did a split reservation last year. I just let them know what I was doing when I checked in and asked if I could stay in the same room... not only did I get to stay in the room, but I didn't even have to go to the front desk to check-out/check back in. They actually called the day before I was supposed to "check out" for the first reservation and scheduled a time that someone could come to my room the next day and do the paperwork. Talk about customer service!!!
