The water parks are likely closed. The theme parks are not.

That would never happen as it does not get cold enough.

Now the WATER parks can and do close. I don't recall at what temp that decision is made. So it could be that they did close and the person misheard and thought it was all the parks.

Maybe they were talking about the Princess Half Marathon? I've never heard of them closing the main parks due to cold.

The watermarks are closed. Spoke with someone there today. The parks are open and operating as usual. I think the only time I remember the parks being closed was when a forecasted hurricane is bearing down. Other than that, I do not remember the parks ever being closed.

The water parks will close if it's cold enough, as will the Spirit of Aloha dinner show at the Polynesian.

I doubt they would cancel a RunDisney event because of the cold. Back several years ago they had freezing rain during the marathon and half marathon. It would need to get well colder than it gets in Orlando before they'd consider canceling. Right now, the weather looks fine for the Princess.

Heck, there's still running events up here throughout the winter. I ran one a couple weeks before Christmas here in NE Ohio.

Oh no, I meant maybe the OP's friend heard something about the marathon and assumed it meant the parks were closed.

I have a lot of friends there today for it. Definitely not cancelled! lol

We were at the Disney marathon prior to going to the corrals one year and temps were in the 20s. This weekend's temps won't be that low (I don't think).

WDW closed the afternoon of September 14 and September 15, 1999 due to Hurricane Floyd and has closed for other hurricanes as well (Charley 2004, Wilma, 2005). It also closed on 9-11.

We just got home yesterday to find a burst water pipe on balmy Long Island. (9 degrees as I write this). But it wasn't all that much warmer in MK wednesday night, maybe 45 or so. People were buying anything warm in the Emporium! CMs couldn't keep the racks filled.

Just the water parks. The only times Disney theme parks have ever closed for weather have been in advance of approaching hurricanes.

8/31/85 Hurricane Elena, 5 PM closure
8/2/95 Hurricane Erin, delayed opening
9/14-15/99 Hurricane Floyd, 1.5 day closure
8/14/04 Hurricane Charley, 1 PM closure
9/3-4/04 Hurricane Frances, 2 day closure
9/25/04 Hurricane Jeanne, 1 day closure
10/24/04 Hurricane Wilma, 1 day closure

I still remember that one. It was our honeymoon, our first visit to the World and that exact night I was introduced to margaritas!
We were in Coronado Springs and had to stay inside all day. Boy it was windy and the next day it was HUMID!

WE had the most beautiful weather at WDW when Hurricane Andrew was wiping out Homestead. Interesting to be tent camping at FW and see how updates were provided throughout the day and how evacuation plans were ready in case the storm headed towards Orlando.
