Parking with an ECV and no handicap placard?

My coworker is going on a trip next October to Disney world with her two adult children, her daughter in law, and two grandchildren (oh, also her ex husband and his wife lol). They are staying off property in a house. Probably visiting Disney itself for 4 days (mk twice, Epcot, ak. No hs).

She has issues with her hips and I have told her that, knowing her and seeing her difficulties just getting to her car at night, that an ECV will be a necessity. I was looking at companies that rent ECVs which can be broken down to fit in a car trunk.

I’ve never used anything but Disney busses for transportation. What are her options as far as getting herself and the ECV from parking to the park itself? She does not have a handicap placard. I’m thinking that maybe she and her (adult) daughter take an Uber or lyft while the rest of the family drives themselves and they meet at the park entrance? Thoughts on this or other suggestions?

She will need to ask every parking CM for the medical over flow parking ( or this is why it was called when I lest went with mynfriend). It is for just this people with ECVand other medical devices ) but with out the Handicap stoker ( and for those with a handicap sticker when the other lot is full )this is normily
Just behind the handicap lot.

Medical parking is one option; just be sure to NOT park in the blue-lined HA spots.

Another option is to have the driver drop her off near the entrance and then park the car, joining up a few minutes later.

Thanks to you both! If she’s dropped off by the driver, do they have to circle around again to park? And is there anything special to consider with magic kingdom and the TTC? Is the monorail then easiest to get to the park entrance with an ECV?

with new roads I am not sure you can do the drive around the MK and come back in trick any more for the drop off and the drop off for the MK was not much closer then where you park. The farry boat is the easiest drive straight on drive straight off with the monerail you have a smal ramp they put down for you and then you have to back off

Thinking about it some you might not have to drive around the MK we did for some resion. But I think when my friend did this she did have to exit and go back though the toll gates.

I think the ferry would be easier, but she may not have a choice. Depending on how early they get there, only one or the other may be running.

in my experience, the ferry runs before the monorail does

If you use Uber or Lyft you need to make sure they can take an ECV. There may be vans that are suitable but they may be hard to come by. You need a handicap van if you are not taking the scooter apart.

If you have a regular car it sounds to me like you expect the driver to handle the scooter for you. I'm not sure they will be willing to take the travel scooter apart and load and unload it from their trunk. Even if you did it the driver still may not allow it in their trunk. You could bang something up taking the scooter in and out.

I think you are better off taking your scooter in your own car. Even if you regular park the scooter driver could meet you at the entrance and the rest of you could take a tram or whatever to the entrance.

Additionally, she has plenty of time to get an Handicapped parking permit placard and/or tag. Some states offer temporary placards (in our state, those are red, instead of the "traditional" blue) that typically expire after a shorter period of time.

It sounds like she might benefit from, and be a candidate for, a Handicapped parking permit.

I usually plan on staying in places where I don't have to use my car much so that I don't have to take my wheelchair in and out of the car. I can do it, but the fewer times that I have to do it the better. My county has an online pdf form to fill out to give to my physician to fill out and then certify. Then I take it to the County office and receive my new parking placard. My office just prints them out now instead of using the more heavy duty paper or cards.

That's really interesting, that they are printing them locally - in my home state, we still have to go to our primary care doctor, have them "certify" that you need the accommodation, and then doctor's office has to send the completed form to the Department of Public Safety at the state capital. I allow 6 weeks every time I need to renew my placard.

They used to have the physician send the form to the DPS and the state mailed the placard to me, too. I did go to my primary physician and he has filled out the form before, but I could not renew and I had to use a new application since I let my last one expire. Now he just completes the PDF form and the DPS tells me that it has to be notarized and to bring it in for the new placard. Actually, I print out the PDF form for the physician and have him fill it out. It was a lot easier this time for me to obtain my placard by going downtown. I just showed the DPS the notarized form and they printed out a preformed placard with my name and info and expiration date on it. There is no charge for me. I haven't used it yet, but I have it in case I decide to rent another car. Atlanta is the state capital of Georgia which is in the county of Fulton. A little confusing isn't it.

In Louisiana I printed off a form, filled it out and took it to my PCP to get it signed. Then I took it to DMV and was given the placard. When my doctor filled it out my diagnosis was not finalized so she was reluctant to put permanently handicapped so it was only good for a year. I think it cost $3.

When we bought a new car in Arkansas I took the generic signed forms to DMV to get a handicap license plate for the car when getting new plates for the new car. The DMV person told me that it had to be signed by a doctor in Arkansas. We argued over that for 15 minutes. She finally got a supervisor that said the doctor did NOT have to be in Arkansas, but I had to use the form that said Arkansas across the top. So I had to make another trip to the doctor (in Louisiana where I get my medical care) to get a new form signed that was identical to the first form except that it said Arkansas across the top and had some form number at the bottom. Bureaucracy at it's finest.

Wouldn't it be better for her (and a family/party member to assemble/disassemble the ECV) to take the owned or rented car and the other family members to take the chauffeured car (Uber, etc.) if needed and then meet up at the park entrance? Then no hassles with the chauffeur about wrestling with the ECV or arguing with the CM on the Segway about proceeding down to Row A to drop her and the ECV off rather than turn into the parking row being worked upon. (Then exit except instead of really exiting, driving the wrong way into row ZZ and rejoining the entering line of cars and parking normally.)

(Advantage of being dropped off near row A: Not consuming additional ECV battery power to get, say from row W or row GG down to the park entrance.)
