Here's my question. I am staying at the RPR, our frends are not. We want them to visit us at the Pool / our room while we are staying at the resort. We think that I can give them one of my room keys and they could get into the lot and park for the day. We are wondering if the hotel would know if we had two cars parking in the lot? If not my friends can pay $20 to self PArk or is it valet park at the Hotel for the day?

visitors to the hotels pay $20 for a day visit to park there.
hotel guests pay less for parking their car in the lot.

hi i thought it just resort guests who can use the pool?:confused3

The pools are just for resort guests. There are signs that say so, and during busier times, I have seen them checking room keys. Those that didn't have room keys were escorted out of the pool area.

Jodie is right. The pools are only for resort guests. It's a very strict policy. The Universal resorts allow you to pool hop if you are staying at one of the other Universal resorts, but you have to show your room key to use the pool.

Jodie and Allison are correct. And while the FOTL lines may not catch your friend's wife being a Michael when using your husband's room key, the resorts do look at the keys a bit closer and you may run into an embarrassing moment for the children if the staff refuses entrance to the pool for you and your friends.

As I suggested in your "What Do The Room Keys Look Like Thread", since your friends want to take advantage of all the amenities reserved for paying Resort Guests, it really would be in your best interest to suggest that they just reserve a room for the night. That way they would get two full days of pool, boats, parking and FOTL. There are some great deals out there, so getting all those amenities for the price of a room is a bargain!

Goofy must be a detective, but I assure you nobody was trying to do anything incorrect. The FOTL is for five poeple and I will only have five people - the name on the key is semantics and 5 people are all registered in the room in the case of the day my husband will be playing golf. I am paying over $300 a night so no it's not very economical for one person to get there own room.

I have stayed many years ago in the HRH and RPR and I had my mother meet us there and spend a day at the pool. I rented a cabana and spent alot of money on food and drinks. The waitress was tiped well and I had no problems. I was asked for my room key once and I showed it and there was no problem. Since money is being spent and especially in this economy when the hotel is not sold out over a holiday time things are hurting - if you spending they might not be so strict about having one extra person at the pool. If so I will be embarassed but that's all, embarrased, not flogged.

But I will take your advice to heart - Thanks!:)

Definitely not a detective. When both of your threads are sitting on top of each other on the front page (the owner of the thread is right under the title), it is not hard to figure out whose thread is whose :goodvibes

Now for your other problem. $300.00 a night seems outrageous for the RPR with all the discounts they are offering these days, even during a holiday period.

I have personally never spent over $300.00 a night, and I stay at the Portofino, and usually during some of the busiest holidays and peak seasons.

If you give us your dates, perhaps we can help you find much, much better discounts!

It doesn't matter how much you pay a night.....everyone pays alot to stay onsite and enjoy the perks. The room keys are issued by NAME not NUMBER of guests. If you can attempt to cheat the system and have a clear conscience, go for it......I wouldn't be able to do it.......but it sounds like you are going to do what you want, no matter what anyone says.

JMO

Also, you shouldn't bag on someone who is simply pointing out the rules. We don't play like that over here on this side of the DIS.

I came to help also - I gave some good insight over the years - But really are you going to get stuck on the name on the room key it as if it's written in stone and I am breaking a holy covenant if I use that key for someone other than my husband for one day. Swapping out one person for another? He paid for the ticket but isnt using it so Universal is doing well on that one right. And he's golfing through Universal Golf, so they are making even more more.

Ok - I give up. But I am spending $300 a night for a room and that's with a discount - I got the 6 day 41% discount. It's not cheap when I am going. BUt regardless money is being spent big time between food, souvenirs and other miscellous stuff. Universal will not be cheated - as if we should be worrying about wether or not Universal is making alot of money off of us all.

Who is worrying if I get cheated or if I get my moneys worth?

It's all good - I am sorry if I hurt anyones sensabilities or feelings.

Didn't you kind of answer your own question? :confused3 Did your mother pay when she was your guest? What was her experience then and why wouldn't it apply to this upcoming visit for your friends? (and, we have had our roomkeys checked at the pool also, so have them be prepared to be turned away)

Oh...and I agree....whatever your dates are, surely you can get a better rate than $300+/night? We're staying in July (usually June and/or July) and have never paid over $250ish/night....and that was at PBH.

Just for clarification's sake, here is a scan of the back of a PBH card. I believe all cards have the same text on them. Just be prepared that they may ask for valid ID to verify the card at the pool.

I would just ask at the front desk if your friends could join you. If it is not busy, ie: chairs are filled and guests are waiting for them, you might be surprised at their answer. I have found that the Universal hotels will bend over backwards for their guests to try to help them. But if you are caught in the pool without asking, they probably will escort you out.

I would also do what goofy! suggested. We are here to provide information, and are not going to advocate ways to circumvent Universal's rules or policies so I am going to lock this thread.
