Parking Tram Question

I am looking at some of the hotels that are by the Mickey & Friends parking structure. The prices are nice and low and the hotels look decent.

I understand from reading all of the posts around here that parking in the garage is a pain. But how it is picking up the parking tram from the garage if we were at a hotel close to it?

It is dangerous trying to get across into the parking garage area to pick up the tram?

Trying to save a few bucks, but want to be close. We are a family of 6 so I am looking for a place with enough sleeping space in 1 room.

Is there a specific hotel you're looking at? I am trying to envision the area around the parking structure (I go to DL quite frequently) but I'm having a hard time thinking of hotels that would have you benefit from taking the tram. I feel like in most cases, you'd have to walk just as much to get to the parking structure as you would to get to the park. You might want to look at hotels on Harbor instead. Also, 6 in one room is probably cutting it close, and many places have a policy of no more than 5. You will probably want to look into suites.

The Hotels you are refering to are on the North. The tram pick up is on the South of the Mickey and Friends Garage. That garage has a bunch of lanes of cars entering it so I would be pretty nervous walking my family across them. Also you need to enter from the lot access off of Ball Rd not Disneyland Rd.

I've also heard that the garage does not open in the morning until full. Some days they leave it part empty for people who show up in the afternoon. So there may not be trams from the morning on.

Regarding what SonnyJane said: I agree I would look at Harbor blvd. I stayed at the Del Sol just over a year ago. I got a good deal through hotels.com which the Del Sol itself wouldn't match. The room was just fine, nothing fancy. But it was large, two queens, and plenty of room room on the floor if you brought a cot or sleeping bags. The breakfast room was tiny and the food basic. The parking lot was tight but there were spots for everyone.

The line ups for the trams can get long. Last year we parked in M&F and walked to the parks instead of using the trams. We didn't want to wait and we had our stroller with us.

Yeah, I can't picture a hotel that would be easy to walk to the trams from. The way it's set up it seems like you would have to either walk all the way around (too far) or walk where all the cars are which doesn't seem like a good idea and disney might not like it either and make you turn back. ?

We always walk too because the line is usually longer than i feel like waiting and we have a stroller with us too that seems like too much trouble to try to get on the tram.

I'm not sure what you mean by this. The garage is always open in the morning and it usually isn't until much later in the day that it might close if there are a lot of people. But the trams are always running. I've never seen or heard of the trams not running during a certain time. Even if they close the structure, they keep the trams running so that guests can get back to their cars if they want to.

thanks for the info. that is what I was looking for. It is so hard to tell on a map and we have never been so I have no idea what the set up is in the area.

I have walked from the Disneyland Hotel, past the parking garage to the Sheraton for dinner with friends and it was a very safe walk. Plenty of wide sidewalks.

What you need to consider when crossing Ball Road is that you cross on the North/East side by the hedges and that walk takes you along the Northbound lanes of Disneyland Drive. To get to the trams, you then cross Disneyland Drive at the walking path light (which is at the road that is also the crossroad to the entrance to the Disneyland Hotel).

could also option to stay on the same sidewalk and just keep going onward with the crowd to the parks. If you have a stroller, then it is almost easier to just keep going.

Keep in mind the walk to the park from the garage is .5 miles by GPS.

The Holiday Inn on Walnut might work for you. It's easy to get into the tram loading area from Magic Way. Here's the path.

Look for the little red boxes and the yellow lines between them. That's the path from the Holiday Inn on Walnut to the Mickey & Friends tram loading area. If you click cancel in the distance measuring area you'll lose the path but will gain some additional labels.
